Mountain Biking

So I broke my wrist 6 weeks ago playing football. I've been counting today down since then, today my cast comes off! Bring on Saturday :D Wales in the Euros and my first ride, albeit a gentle one, in over a month. :D :D

So with 150mm forks, I understand installing spacers reduces the air volume and adds progression (I think that's the right term), but does that mean that a 150mm fork in effect turns into a 140 / 130mm fork regards how far it can be compressed?

No. It just ramps up more at the top of the stroke... or do I mean bottom?

although you can get different spacers on some forks which reduce travel.

i had my old sektors reduced from 150 to 130 to match my old trek.

Day off tomorrow, no football on so out on the bike, where to ride?

I am Sheffield way, but fancy something trail centre style, I am almost sure it will be Dalby Forest as I fancy something new.

What about Greno? Is that not a new thing? I guess not if you're sheffield? Dalby isn't very good at all, if you like Trails centres... it's more of a slog round a forest for 22 miles with a couple of fun bits in for maybe a total of one of those miles.

Some of the trails round ladybower reservoir are pretty decent. Its no trail centre but decent enough!

Ended up doing Dalby, it was ok. Not sure I would rush back there. Agree with Jono, it's a slog around a forest, lots of it was singletrack which I like, but it was fairly overgrown, and it's hard to get any speed up when you can't see around the corners! Oh and £8 for parking!

Have ridden Grenoside before, it's ok for a quick blast but fairly short.

Been to ladybower and the surrounding areas about 6 times this year.

Leave for the BC Bikerace in one week \o/

Good luck! It will be super hard but so much fun! Are the trails bone dry or have they had some rain?

Top tip- the transfers post race can be quite tiring cos you go straight from bike to transfer to setting up tent. Try and carry enough food so that you can start recovering and relax. Also buy one of those super compressible camping mats that you inflate. Was so jealous I didn't have one and was on a foam mat!!!

First time at BPW yesterday, loved it. We pedalled up and managed to get 5 runs, however the downhills are so fun will definitely book on uplift next time i go to get more in.

Does anyone have any experience riding in the Lakes? I'm off to Keswick for a couple of days next week for a friend's wedding, but will manage to get a session out on the bike at some point.

I know there's Whinlatter up the road, but I think I'd prefer something natural and starting from the door in Keswick if possible. I've been looking at the Borrowdale Bash route, which looks pretty good, but around 30% of it looks on road.

Are there any better options? I don't have any fancy GPS device to follow, so nothing too difficult to navigate. I'm also going to be on my own, so nothing too super-gnar either, just in case like!

I'm going to be running 3c compound minion on rear and single ply high roller up front. I suspect I'll be buying new tyres out there lol
