Mountain Biking

Its not just scratches. I'm sending it back because the frame geo is compromised. The chain shouldn't be ripping chunks out of the frame.

Also one of the caliper bolts is rounded and I need to adjust it to stop the brakes from rubbing. I'm doing it because of both of these things. Couldn't care less about scratches.

This just sums up how the bike industry think. They rush out products that are faulty then expect people to put up with it.

We got two Felt TK1 in the shop, both forks crowns would scratch off the bottom of the down tube when turned to a certain point. Various emails and pictures back and forth and all they could say was that it was meant to be ridden in a straight line. Actual? Before that the best they could do was a discount off our trade to pass onto the customer but it isn't always about money.

Same brand noisy freehub body on a Carbon 29er £1k mark. Emailed on the Monday after the customer brought the bike on Saturday. Bounce back out of office email from all 3 of our contacts. Did get a reply late that day saying they were at a dealer show and would look into it, nothing by the wednesday so we ordered a pair of wheels and will get them to credit the price.

By the time they got back to us and sent the part from Germany the bike would have been in our shop longer than the customer had it.

Another one was a £3k+ carbon road bike with Sram red and sram wheels. Nipples kept crumbling(sram 30)so new wheels, same again, new wheels, same again new wheels which lasted longer. Then the front mech braze on failed, sent back for repair, repair guy was out of the office at the tour....took weeks on end. Hassled them and got him a brand new bike with zipp 101s on it.

Think his wheel broke again and had to wait a month or two for a new one which was fine for him as it was in the winter.

That's before I start ranting at the amount of bikes that need seat tubes reamed, cost cutting and scrimping out on cassettes and going for sun race or whatever else crap that is out there.

Can anyone recommend a pair of glasses for trail centre riding? I've started wearing contact lenses so I need to prevent dust and wind from getting in.

Not looking for anything too fancy and expensive to begin with.

EDIT: Might try a set of Bolle safety specs, but ultimately Oakley M:Frame, Flak Jackets or Half Jackets are probably the best choice from what I've been reading.

I'm just using a pair of cheap (£15) Uvex clear from CRC - comfy scratch resistant and UV protection. Practically disposable at £15 a pair so no big deal if they get ran over/dropped etc.

/edit - tell a lie - they're £10 not £15!

How would you stuggest I approach a constant issue with SRAM parts with the shop? I don't feel they're "fit for purpose" as 40ish hours out of a rear free hub and it eats itself and the axle. SRAM RAIL 40 on 4k~ bike

Madison d'Arcs glasses are great, cheapish but good enough, easily available replacement parts, such as lenses/frames/arms...

Royal Mail won't take the bike so call Parcelforce who YT Booked as collectors. The collection postcode they have for me is 90 miles from my actual postcode.

I'm losing my rag I tell you. All I want is my bike back in one piece.

I'm just going to say it. Screw Mail Order.

So looking like I won't have my bike until Mid to late July... 2K has left my pocket with nothing to show for it. I had one ride that was pretty lousy...

Just unlucky i guess i feel for you though. When i had my canyon i had zero issues. Same with everything, stuff goes wrong just more of a pain when you order from away!

Sad times. It's a great advert (as so to speak) for the LBS though.

A good LBS is few and far between though. Expensive as hell, or someone with less knowledge that they actually think.

I took mine to an LBS as I was getting short tempered, moved away and the issues were still prese t. Re-do e everything myself with more time and everything was perfect.

Mail order has its shortfalls too mind.

Just picked up my Aeris from Bird HQ. Had a new Reverb fitted under warranty, a new Hope stainless steel bottom bracket installed and some new organic brake pads.

Really cannot fault their service. They're open and honest, and it's really nice to deal with the owners of the company directly. It helps that I love the bikes they make too :)

In the last couple of years I've moved purchasing more back towards LBS, yes i can get things cheaper and often faster online, but its nice to have that human interaction and that comfort knowing that you have a lot easier comeback if you have issues, it helps when you have a really good LBS, it often tends to be a much nicer buying experience.

My LBS will often fit stuff for free - saves me a load of hassle plus he can get stuff in next day for free whereas next day for me means £5 or whatever plus needing to be around when the courier comes.

Depends what they have replaced already?

Are the shop sending it back to Sram tech centre to get repaired?

The shop can only ask the tech guys and go with their answer as they are the experts.

What's the actual problem, any photos?, I can ask if it's a common issue?

We tried a warranty on a Zipp 303 that cracked right through, they said nope even though they are meant to be these bullet proof wheels for cobbles. The boy has broken a 3rd one now

On the other hand they replaced a Sram Red lever FOC even though it looked like the inside of the Titanic.

On the verge of binning my Elixir 5's

Trouble free use since 2012 and all of a sudden I'm getting constant brake rub on the front, to the extent it wont spin freely at all when in the work stand.

I have re bled them twice, checked the calipers, replaced pads etc but still sticking, almost like there is too much fluid in there forcing the pads shut.

Any suggestions?

So with 150mm forks, I understand installing spacers reduces the air volume and adds progression (I think that's the right term), but does that mean that a 150mm fork in effect turns into a 140 / 130mm fork regards how far it can be compressed?
