Mountain Biking

Tubeless and went straight up on my Crossmax's! Weather has been bunk out there for weeks but few of my mates are there now and its boiling! :D

:D

BPW booked for 25th September for my friend and I with hired Slash 7's.

It's an age away but uplift on the weekends gets booked up so quickly. Can't wait to go though, something to look forward to. Been watching YouTube videos of the trails and they look so much fun.

Changed my disc pads yesterday and as I was tightening up the rears the allen socket suddenly turned to cheese and completely rounded off. Was barely applying any pressure at all  Just hope they won't need removing ever again now :o

I take it you mean the disc pad retaining pin? They are normally aluminium anyway so if you dont have the allen key in correctly they round off very easy. You could just bodge a slightly bigger allen key (maybe an odd imperial) in next time to undo it or maybe cut a slot for a screw driver.

Theres loads to be had out there if you want to replace the screw. Just google disc pad retaining screw

Fell off last night, gap jump, landed too far back on rear, pushed forward, over bars.

Cut chin, cut eye, cut leg, then I looked down and saw finger.... pointing in the wrong direction! Popped it back in, rode home, A&E.

Avulsion fracture of middle digit and some glue on the chin :( fun fun.

Does anyone have any experience riding in the Lakes? I'm off to Keswick for a couple of days next week for a friend's wedding, but will manage to get a session out on the bike at some point.

I know there's Whinlatter up the road, but I think I'd prefer something natural and starting from the door in Keswick if possible. I've been looking at the Borrowdale Bash route, which looks pretty good, but around 30% of it looks on road.

Are there any better options? I don't have any fancy GPS device to follow, so nothing too difficult to navigate. I'm also going to be on my own, so nothing too super-gnar either, just in case like!

Ta
I've heard good things about the Borrowdale Bash route... despite the road sections. Never done it myself though.

Was it Matt_FSR that did it with Mrs Matt_FSR?

Ouch! Great man skills to push it back in and ride out. I salute you

Yeah the retaining pin. Planning to get a new bike at some point in the near future so should be fine till then :)

1st time poster in this thread, and ive recently got into MTB'ing, mainly to get fit, get out there and have some fun with other friends who have recently got into it.

My riding is consisting of many miles of canal towpaths, some roads and then on occasion trail centres (e.g. cannock) and natural trails.

Im currently riding a Whyte 905 which I have found pretty good - especially downhill it inspires confidence until the shock runs out of travel.

Because (well for no good reason tbh); i fancy a second bike, something which is a bit more suited to the trail centres, so I can use the whyte on easier terrain and as a general "hack".

I've actually ordered (but not paid for) a YT Jeffsy CF Pro, but still wondering if I shouldnt be looking at more options?

I quite fancy the Whyte T-130 C RS too....

Any opinions, other choices I should be looking at?

(you can tell me i dont need one, but heart>mind tbh)

That jeffsy is a great bike, good choice.

First ride on Saturday after my double wrist fracture 2 months ago, it's been so long off the bike :(

Weather is prime out in morzine right now! Les gets is like a ghost town and the tracks are beaten badly! They do have some maintenance on the go luckily! Pleney is riding the best I've seen and four people on the hill all day doing repairs which keeps the braking bumps down! Loads of new runs down super morzine I've not ridden before which were really enjoyable! Plan to get over to chatel soon but no rush!

Quick question, one of the grips on my MTB has become loose. I'll clean the bar with an IPA but should I just use some mildly soapy water the clean the inside of the grip?

I hear hairspray on the bar whilst I re-fit it will help secure it to the bar as well.

Also my MTB has Avid Elixir hydraulic brakes but they are incredibly spongy, I have it at middle reach adjust but it almost comes all the way back to the bar before full braking is achieved, I imagine it needs bleeding but are there any tell tale signs to look out for failed seals etc. It affects both front and back, they both feel worse than they did from new.

How old are they? They are just not very good at not needing bleeding often. They work ok... at stopping you etc, but they don't last that long between bleeds.

They are a good 3-4 years old now, I don't think they've been bled in that time, so might be the time to bite the bullet, buy a bleed kit and probably buy something to cheer me up after I fail miserably with the avid bleed system.

Watching guides on shimano bleeding makes me want to just ditch the avids altogether!
