Mountain Biking

OOOH i'm all excited, going to see a bike tomorrow morning, been needing something to munch the trail mileage for a while now, been putting it off for too long, will report back tomorrow lunchtime, at which point i'll either be proud owner of new steed or ****** off that i've traveled 30 odd miles for nout:p

Oh and first ride on the Five-Tens... Wow what a difference, didnt realise i was missing out on so much, mega pleased with them!!!:D

Didnt get it in the end, it was a Commy meta hardtail, was supposed to get some extra money in my pay this month... Checked my pay when it went in last night, extra money wasnt there, and nothing i can do about it till i'm back at work in the middle of the month, will just have to wait till next month to treat myself:(
Gutted though as it looked great, and was looking forward to putting it through its paces next week.

Got a few days up Fort William way booked for the start of next week, just camping with a couple of mates, plan is to get GlenCoe in on the Monday, Nevis Range on the Tuesday and hop over to laggan on the Wednesday, been looking forward to this for months, looking like we'll get some decent weather Mon/Tue but Wednesday is looking a bit iffy, but wont really matter as we'll be headed home that night.

That's a tough few days on a full DH bike!

Glencoe doesn't do uplifts does it? And I think Laggan got rid of their uplift wagon? Though it might've opened up since they've re-opened the cafe.

Shame, very nice bikes. I was trying to convice my cousin to get one.

GlenCoe has chairlift as does obviously fort bill, Laggan will be a bit of a slog though, lots of push! much struggle!:D

Had my Cube Analog 2016 serviced today,It had an issue with the front brake having an issue & the lever been a bit "floppy" hardly having any stopping power,They sorted that. :)

They done a great job, feels like new again.

I was curious though,Noticed this white grease stuff all along my chain & cassette,What is that stuff?..Just regular grease thats colored white or is it something special?..it seemed rather thick, like glue :D

And before someone says,No its not what it sounds like haha.

Wife and I spent all day getting high above 12000ft, 25 miles and 4300ft of climbing. Perfect conditions for it.

Just about to take the plunge into mountain biking, and need to get some shoes/trainers for the job. Ideally I was thinking of getting some trail running shoes as they're waterproof and breathable, so I can use them for running and for biking. However I know the suggested route is something really flat like the 5 10s.

Is anyone else using trail running shoes for the job, I know I'm being tight but two birds and all that

Thanks for any advice

I've got trial running shoes, completely non waterproof ones though. They drain quick though! Will look to get something waterproof if I start more regularly doing extended rides in the wet. Not tried 510s for comparison but I think I've got so used to these I've not had a problem with feet slipping around since I bought the superstar pedals.

All about the fivetens, I'd been living in ignorance for years, last week my old riding shoes gave up, so i bought a set of Freeriders, wow what a world of difference!
I've tryed riding my bike with salomon trail running shoes before, when i forgot to pack my riding shoes, wasnt a particularly nice experience, after being used to nice wide stable flat soled shoes.
If you want shoes for riding in there no other place to look if your riding flats.
Trail running shoes are going to have quite pronounced tread and the rubber compound wont be ideal for flat pedals, will likely get chewed up and will just plain give sub optimal performance.
What i'm getting at is... Dont mess about, just get the right tool for the job!

Trainers have too many knobbles to work well on flats. The pedal pins make the shoe sit at set positions depending where the pins sit between the shoes nobs.

Gave her a once over and a tune up ahead of the trip, shes riding smooth quiet and tight, dont expect it to return in quite as good a state.
Come on tomorrow! cant wait to get on the gondola!
