Mountain Biking

I'd probably just replace the pads and bed them in before I set off. You aren't going to go through a set of pads in one uplift day :)

A spare tyre is handy but from what I gather stiniog has been tamed a lot and hopefully you won't need it.

I tend to run about 27psi in rear and 23-25 in front. I weigh 90kg.

Goggles are pretty essential because getting some crud in your eye on a descent will throw your concentration faster than anything.

I enjoy an uplift day but instead of doing every track often wish I could just session the same tracks to learn them.
I do plan on doing only a couple of the ruins and getting good at them.

Similar weight to me then.
I have changed out my rear pads that were around 90% worn the fronts are only a few months old.
Gave them a light sand and the disc as well so will just bed then in on the green run I think.
I know it's going to be wet, bit I really hope it's not lashing it down all day.

Antur Stiniog next week.
Any tips?

Spare tyre.
Spare brake pads.
Higher rear pressure.
Weather looks crap so got some cheap goggles instead of making do with glasses.

First ever uplift so really looking forward to it. Try and make some progress on learning to jump.

Just treat it the same as every other riding, full face and googles always when I'm riding parks. Only because you don't need to worry about over heating on a climb really - so why not.

Spare tyre is always worth it, I always seem to knacker a tyre at parks :/ had to cancel a race at bpw because of it.

Uplifts are awesome! Great opportunity to push yourself beyond the normal too.

Really looking forward to it. Need to figure out clothing I don't really have much we weather gear, I normally just accept in getting soaked which is fine for a couple of those, this will be all day so it'd be nice to stay dry.

I don't think theres a huge amount of difference between any of them really considering the prices quoted.

Alltough I will say the 'Microshift Advent' on the rockrider is not a gear shifter I am familliar with on MTB... I'm more acustomed to the typical Shimano and SRAM shifters.

Went a bit carried away. Gonna go look at this tonight

I dunno the forks on on that particular model... I'm guessing they are still cheap coil springs rather than air springs?

The description says rockshox Judy in one part, and rockshox xc-30 in another so the spec is a bit confusing.

If they are air springs then for sure it's a better buy.

I imagine anything at this budget is likely to be fairly cheap though

I probably should just go with the Rockrider at €450. Accept I’m buying a budget bike and move on. It just looks rubbish :p

Such a good time at Antur Stiniog. Weather wasnt at all bad considering what its been like the last few days and weeks. (Im in the red jacket, yellow bike)

Think I’m gonna pull the plug on the haibike nduro 8 freeride. Total steal for around the 4.2k mark. Top ohlins suspension and everything else too.

Bike markets crashed now and it’s great lol.

So I just cleaned my bike, and unfortunately the rear wheel has some cracks around the spokes.

That's 3 of them. I counted 9 of the 32 spoke holes having similar cracks. One is slightly worse than the top one in those pictures, but the camera didn't take a good picture of that. Anyway, that's not safe to ride right? Pretty sure the answer is no, but just making sure I can't get away with it while I sort a new wheel/rim.

The rim is a WTB ST i30 27.5 that came with the bike. I can get the same rim from starbike for £55 including delivery and local bike shop can build it onto my hub for another £50. Halo Ridge Line can be got for the same, is much the same (tubless, 30mm width so my tyres will fit etc), had a decent review (as part of a wheel set), that's from the UK though and I have had good experiance with halo warranty. Considering the Xm 481 as well, only a little more and nearly universal praise.

One of those seem like it's my cheapest option, but before I do that, any other rims to consider for similar price?. Cheaper full wheel is an option as well if there are any decent cheap ones knocking around (say £150). Rear Hub according to vitus is 148x12mm. Rim needs to be able to take a 2.6 tyre and be tubeless ready.

Thanks.

Just back from a weekend in North Wales, a hungover spin round Coed Y Brenin red route, Dragons Back. Followed by a bucket list ride doing Snowdon, up the Llanberis path and back down the Rangers Path and Telegraph Alley.

Great weekend with a few beers and lots of laughs!

For 4.2 it's an absolute bargain! The suspension is 3 grand alone. I was tempted by one at that price.

What kind of riding do you do? It's obviously a down hill weapon. Chatting to a guy last weekend with one at the bike park, he said it's a bit more work on trail rides and country riding and the motor doesn't feel as punchy as the older pw-x2, which is to be expected as it's slack and heavy, but get it into enduro and downhill, and it's a beast, the suspension will eat everything.

There is also a lack of app support at the moment, hopefully Haibike will bring something out so you can tune the assistance levels like with other brands.

I'm not sure I'd have one as an only "do it all bike" but for bike parks and serious enduro/downhill it will be amazing.
I'm happy to stick with my 160 Action team as a good all-rounder, it's taken everything I can throw at it and is still good for slower weekend rides on local trails. However I'd happily have the Haibike as a second bike, now to convince the wife......

Yeah it’s just a total steal at that price. I usually ride bike parks / uplift days, have a Saracen Myst for those days though I may take this to give it a proper downhill thrashing.

I’ll be using it mostly for Scottish steep stuff (Golfie) and laps at descend etc.

GX eagle chain on that bike is made out of cheese btw and will start skipping at around 500miles.

Get an XX1 chain ready for when that happens.
you can probably find one for about £50 and they are meant to be good for around 2k miles.

I've done 50-60mile bike rides on my bike :D (Whyte E-160S 29er with bosch cx and 750watt battery)
with ergo grips and ergo seat it's more comfortable than my road bike was.

just a shame motors are restricted to 15mph as it's 5mph too slow for anything but downhill really.

Even restricted to 15mph if I go on any of the dedicated cycle trails for commuters I still catch and over take loads of people :D was riding along the coast a few months back and even over took some people on roadbikes

Nice one, I suspect it will be perfect up there.

Is this your first e-bike?

Enjoy it mate, it's a wicked looking bike with amazing spec and 10 times the fun with the added power, straight back to the top still fresh for another run!

Will do mate cheers for the tip! You can get the chips for these to derestrict it, a mate of mine done it to his Haibike. Think they're roughly £300. I'll get one eventually but want to run this in for a good few months, just to make sure it runs fine first. I'm sure it will, my mates had no issues on his!

Aye it is mate. Got a Deviate Highlander 160/140 that I used to take up Scotland but I'm just looking to save time doing laps now and everyone seems to be getting e-bikes. Saracen Myst 200/215 for the proper downhill parks, and now this Ebike. Really looking forward to it. Just got the email to say it's being processed :D

I can get a chip for about 150 but Bosch smart system motors have too many ways of detecting that your cheating.

then the motor will do shut down cycles where it won't assist when it realises, after 3 times it literally hardlocks the motor assistance off and only a bosch dealer can reverse it

also voids the warranty and a motor for bosch CX is something like £700-900.

hopefully our laws change at some point from 15>20mph, kinda sad cos the Bosch CX is capable of around 27mph unrestricted

Shimano are the easiest someone on the EMTB forums simply made an app that lets you change the settings

also probably the most unreliable motors though so put me off. getting a bike with one.

Aye have a mate with a Shimano and he’s had to buy a new one etc.

The Haibike used a Yamaha PWX-3 and seems to be fine when chipped so fingers crossed. May not even need it tbh.

Unless you are commuting on it or riding to trails instead of taking a car then you probably will be fine with the speed.

my bike feels like it gradually reduces the power around 15mph then totally cuts out around 16.5mph, which is probably most peoples cruising speed anyway.
but if your just riding on trails and bike parks as the bikes are intended then that's more than fast enough, up hill Ebikes are a dream :D

Sometimes when I go for a quick ride around the block or when running an errand I will purposely choose a route with nice hill climbs

Winters a bad time to buy a new bike though :D absolutely freezing outside !

hope you have some good gloves or your hands are going to freeze

Cracking looking bike BTW but looks like it costs what it does, a big negative for the places I ride :D
