Mountain Biking

I went to gisburn forest yesterday but it started to absolutely chuck it down and i got soaked through to the point i started shivering if i stayed still for too long so didnt try any of the trails and just cycled around the main road

Took the train to long preston train station and cycled to gisburn forest which is around 7 miles, on the way back the trains to that station got cancelled due to flooding so had to do an additional 14 mile bike ride to skipton train station

Was shivering on the train ride back, downloaded 3 weather forcast apps since but ill go better prepared with full waterproofs next time

Do want to visit again sometime in better weather

What area are you based in?

Gisburn is my favourite trail centre, even the uphill stuff is interesting but can also be easily bypassed if you just want to session the downs.

Depends if my legs heal up, i put some minion DHR ii 29x2.6 doubledown maxterra's on my bike and have to admit am not enjoying them, feel really slow im going to check to see if theres something wrong with my brakes tomorrow and swap the tyres back to the forekasters to see if it was the tyres, my bike seems to be slowing down whilst going down a slight decline

A dhr will be slower than a forecaster as it's a complete different type of tyre. A forekaster is an XC focused tyre, so designed to maintain speed on flatter cross country trails. It's faster rolling. A dhr stands for Down Hill Rear tyre, so that's going to shine downhill when you need more grip.
It's grip will be considerably better though so it really depends on where you are riding.

I've pretty much always ran DHRs or similar.

You can easily check if your brakes are dragging by just flipping bike upside down and spinning wheels freely.

Everyone got plans for weekend.

I'm heading down to Corwen in Wales my mate says there's some great riding around there.
We did Bike Park Wales yesterday - the weather was warm and sunny with the trails pretty much dry.

Tomorrow : Cannock Chase, looping Upper & Lower cliff and the DH area
Monday : Forest of Dean DH runs

BPW yesterday

Corwen was ace, so much better than Llandegla just down the road. Need a local to show you round though, you'd never find the trails otherwise.

did that and the brake pads were touching the disk, managed to make a better but it still sounds like its touching a bit, put the forekasters back on and took off the DHRs, as someone who has to ride to trails and use trains the DHR's would have just put me off

my back tyre seems to be buckled somehow, going to avoid taking them on trains during really busy periods from now on as people just end up banging into your spokes. will be taking it in for a service next week

Do you know how to align your brake calipers?

Just loosen the caliper bolts. Squeeze brake, and while it's still squeezed tighten the bolts. Then when you release it should be aligned better.

If it still needs tweaking then just do it visually. Maybe shine a torch through brake and make small adjustment to make gap even either side.

YouTube is a good source for all bike maintenance stuff.

yeah thats what i did, loosened then squeezes brakes and tightened and it made it better but its still slightly touching but doesn't look like its slowing it down much.

That's not how you should align calipers because the pads could be worn uneven or the pads could be moving in different amounts. Center the caliper over the disk with no pads, then fit the pads and get the pistons all moving the same.
If the disk is only touching now and again, it's the disk that needs adjusting.

Well it's never failed me in 20 years so I'll not over think it :).

It's certainly the fastest and least faffy way to get it close enough.

Riding was awesome on all of these days - the whether is currently perfect for riding, sunny; dry and not too hot.
My son is progressing to the really big jumps now. i'm not there yet, my excuse is being older getting over the mental block on the bigger stuff is harder

We will be doing 417 bike park tomorrow : https://417bikepark.co.uk/

Good stuff, Im hoping to visit bike park Wales sometime this year, Wish I had a car but have got a good incentive to pass my driving now.

I did go to Dalby forest yesterday on the train, had to cycle 12-14 miles from Malton train station to Dalby forest, did the blue trail and then just under half of the red trail but it started getting dark (was around 8pm at this time) and my second battery that I had brought for the trails was down to 1 1/2 bars so called it a day and cycled back to Malton train station, the bike ride to and from the forest is scarier than the trails loads of cars coming behind you at 40mph

The trails are quite fun at dalby forest if the train station was within 4 miles of it id definately do a trip or 2 a every month

it would be nice if they let you take bicycles on buses

Amflow just dropped a new bike with the new M2 motor for £3,999 : full carbon frame, 800Wh battery, wireless shifting, 3x flip chips for geo adjustments

Lot's of other eMTB's launching with the higher end M2S motor as well. Including the Atherton S170e

They look good, when I was looking to get a eMTB at the start of the year the local bike shop told me to hold off until the announcement as they will be worth the wait. Going to get the PX Carbon Pro need to order my cycle to work voucher first.
