Mountain Biking

Gutted. Drove all the way to the Lake District (620 mile roundtrip) this weekend, and my brand new Schwalbe (G)ravity Pro Romy soft rear tyre split after 10 miles. It's incredibly difficult to get these tyres on and off the rim, so it's not really feasible to try and install a tube on the trail with limited tools available.

Fortunately I managed to get up and down Blencathra before it unalived itself, so at least I got a good taste for the Lakes. What a place.

EDIT: Why does the forum change (G)ravity to "mavity"?!?!

Some nice pictures, unlucky about the bike tyre am guessing you need a new tyre to use tubeless now unless you use a tube?

Which hotel do you stay at when going to bike park Wales? is there any hotels that will let me take my e bike inside the room

I've stayed in the Premier inn with my bike inside. There's also a campsite across the road with cabins and bike storage.

I haven’t used tubes in probably 14 years. I’ve ordered a Schwalbe (G)ravity Pro Tacky Chan radial tyre to replace it. Hopefully it arrives by Wednesday because I want to get out again on the weekend.

Would love to hit the Lakes again, but the cost of staying over makes it difficult.

Yeah I know what you mean, after switching from tubes 40psi to tubeless 30psi on my hardtail 29x2.6 tyres theres no way id ever go back to tubes

is camping not an option if hotels are too much?

How much do you weigh? 30psi with a 2.6" tyre sounds very high, even with a hardtail. Which tyres?

Fix that with a couple of worms. I've fixed worse trailside. Price of tyres, absolutely can't go replacing them for that.

Do you mean something like this?

Yeah, considering how long these tyres last in terms of mileage, they're crazy expensive compared with car tyres.
Yes, but get one that folds up for trailside repairs. I use the Peatys one, replacement worms can be had on eBay really cheap.
You can buy ones for home use to be inserted from inside that have a patch on one side for much larger holes as well.

Nice one, thanks. I'll take a look at Peaty's. I've become a huge fan of their products in recent years.

I weigh around 111kg, tyre am using are specialised purgatory grid t7 in rear and front sometimes am carrying another e bike battery, jacket and etc in my backpack so you could add a further 5kg with that

Went to Fort William earlier in the week ... loved it ... but seriously humbled by it. It was waaaay bigger / more difficult that anything I had ridden before. Chuffed I got down the pinball section first time.

Fell off on the blue ! front wheel washed out and went flying. Bike ended up on top of me, and the rotor has left a big 4" burn in my shin ... it's blooming sore. I could hear the skin searing when I was on the deck.

Cant wait to go back !

Our Scotland MTB trip was amazing, until I had an over the bars at Fort William ending it 2 days early :(

Friday we drove up. I hired a van so we could easily fit 4 bikes and all our kit.

Saturday : Glentress all day
We did the red route, sessioned the red/back taster tracks & also Twitcher and the following red/black tracks a few times, then rode all of the open black track. I used 3x 750wh batteries, not even using the higher modes much

Sunday : We did the Innerleithen red route, Gold Run & Matador DH tracks and 2x Golfie tracks : New York New York and Flat White. @Begbie : Thanks for the heads up on Golfie, we found our way there and loved it!
Then we drove up to Fort William

Monday : Fort William
- Blue track : Blue Doon
- Black track : Top Chief

These are decent enduro style tracks, with a good mix of flow, tech, rocks and pedal sections.

Skills area : wooden drops
I attempted the large drop and didn't quite have enough speed, cased the landing on the rear which flipped me over the bars, causing a double fractured collar bone :(

So, my son packed up all of kit and bikes and I drove the 9 hour trip home, which wasn't the most comfortable drive ever!
Gutted to home early and now be out injured for a few months. We will defo be returning next year to finish it.

Has anyone been to the Glencoe MTB uplift tracks? It looked good from the road during the drive up.

Unlucky about the injury. I've started to calm it down a bit as I approach late 40s, falls really hurt now when they didn't 10-20 years ago.

Glencoe is good worth doing but not a huge set of trails, I normally do it on the way to Fort William stay in the pods overnight then head to Fort William in the morning.

Fort William can be hard going, I'd say the toughest trails in Scotland. A couple of years ago I thought I was flying down the DH track when a young kid went past me on a hard tail  He was flying, I went down Top Chief with him later and he was nailing the lines still the fastest run down I have ever done on it.

I fell yesterday doing a jump that I probably shouldn't have attempted, the ramp itself was small but it it had a hill going down before it and after the jump there was a dip in the ground your mean't to clear which I think somehow put me of, I did clear it but it felt as though i went higher up in the air than expected and my front wheel landed before my back. I noticed I find it hard to control my bikes landing its probably a skill/technique issue but I sometimes wonder if its because my bike is too big for me (XL size when im around 5'9 - 5'10 and the manufacturer guide says I should be riding a M)

might sell it and buy a new one but ill get a fraction of what I paid for it, I got up from the fall but it was bad enough that I wont be attempting anything like that for a while if ever, left side of leg bruised as well as shoulder and also feeling it in my neck and upper back, head slammed the floor and had to dispose of the helmet

I just don't jump now, started to much prefer more natural trails these days (think Worlds End or Borrowdale Bash). 40 was definitely a turning point minor crashes alone hurt so much more.
