Mountain Biking

I just don't jump now, started to much prefer more natural trails these days (think Worlds End or Borrowdale Bash). 40 was definitely a turning point minor crashes alone hurt so much more.
I love doing trails like dalby and gisburn but I need to pass my driving as the commute by train becomes too much of a trek, this was just a dodgy made jump I think ill get a picture of it sometime when am there but I'm fine with small tabletops and smaller jumps when the terrain ahead is straight,

I really struggle on jumps and drop offs ... which is why I struggled at Fort William in places. I think a big part of that is that where I ride, there just isn't similar features to learn on. I think I'm going to have to build some !

Stile Cop at Cannock Chase is a banging little place if you don’t mind 45 second runs followed by 5 minute slogs back up the hill to the top.

Should probably take a DH bike or a dedicated single speed park bike to smash through it all as the EMTB was a bit overzealous with the weight it’s carrying. Tried a hardtail too but nearly died so swiftly put that back for another time

Any other small little gems like this in the midlands that is easy to get to?

Stole cop is great fun, there's loads of fun off piste stuff across the other side too.

How easy is Telford to get to? Uks best hidden gem up there. Crazy though, you'll see pros up there quite often. The wrekin. Super steep, lot of it not on trail forks or wasn't when it was my local

I tore my MCL up there. :p

It’s easy enough, perhaps another 30 mins or so for me. I’ll have to have a google and may put it in my to do list. Bones are meant to be broken. Builds character! Not too sure about tendons or cartilage.. that doesn’t mend too well from experience

No same. The wrekin is incredible though if you ever pop along.

YouTube as usual doesn't show how steep it is.

Done a couple of hundred miles in my Amflow PX Pro getting a feel for it, not a huge fan of the brakes I like my sharp Saints that I have carried over many bikes now but going to try a different set of pads first got some Magura Gold/yellow pads and Galfer green pro to try. Won't be long as I'm already half way through the pads that came with it they must be pretty soft.

The climbing ability is insane I have been doing some non bike trials just picking a hill/mountain and a rough direction. There is sections I would struggle walking up without a bike that I can now cycle up, needs careful application of rear brake to stop pulling a wheelie. The traction control is very well judged it is hard to tell it doing anything but I was going up some rocks with no wheelspin and a Bosch bike was struggling modulating the power to grip avaialble.

Thermal management must also be good, I fired up Snowdon in a little over 30 minutes with no reduction in power despite using 90% of the battery. In a comparison the other e bikes I was with all thermal throttled at some point.

Bad points I'm going to be going through a lot of chains/cassettes. if you hit the power hard you can get very bad sounds from the chain jumping on the cassette even when not changing gear, need to double check the micro adjustment see if I can get it spot on to help. Chains are cheap enough from Merlin but at almost £300 a cassette that could add up.

The X0 AXS gearshift isn't as good as the DI2 XT I have on my non emtb, if they bring out a way to hardwire the DI2 derailer to maintain the reduction in power when changing gear I'll swap over as I think that might help the chain jumping I get every so often and the cassettes are significantly cheaper.

I've gave it time before maybe swapping the fork to a spare Zeb I have but once setup tweaked a few times it is a great handling bike, can't fully hide the weight compared to my Ibis Ripmo which is around 7kg lighter as I've made it closer to a trail bike rather than Enduro as I'm trying to calm down a bit but it is very close.

I can certainly agree on the black pads included with the gustav brakes. They were rubbish and were swapped immediately. Currently running the gustav silver pads, but the magura gold and galfer greens should be even better for the initial bite.
I swapped out the cassette and rear wheel/freehub for an xs1270 and dtswiss hxc1501 with an hg hub as the xs1270 has replaceable cogs and is less than half the price for a full cassette.

Is using 90% of the battery because you used the most powerful mode the whole way up?
Yeah had it in turbo and was lets see how fast I can get up it, I also hit boost multple times. I've cycled up it on a non emtb that took me about 3.5 hours.

Range seems pretty good trail centre like Glentress will do 25 ish miles 4000 feet of climbing at a good speed. I've turned the assistance levels down on auto so I need to put more power in vs what the motor is giving out, also did a 40 mile ride in ECO still had 30% ish left. For full day riding Amflow are releasing a range extender for it but I'm likely going to go with a power bank instead as you can fast charge it when I have lunch. The cafe at Glentrees let you charge with the outdoor socket but I gerenally only go during the week I don't think it would guaranteed at the weekend and not all the trail centres have access to power so I think the power bank is the better option.

Same I usually just carry up the majority of it, only cycling the flatter bits. Normally go do somewhere like Marin in the afternoon.
I have my eyes on the new Amflow the cheap £4000 one.

Haven't been to Stile Cop in years. Last time I was there it was freezing cold.in March but had the best time hadn't long gotten into bikes when I was there last so was a bit new to being off the ground!

Yes when I need a new cassette will look at other options going to keep on top of changing the chain when it's worn to hopefully at least get a couple of chain changes out the cassette, other owners are saying about 1k miles for the chain and will do 3 changes before the cassette needs changed but I don't think I'll get that from what I've heard from it so far

Just remembered another bad point the dropper post is rubbish so swapped that out.

I'm still using the original dropper. I put some wiper oil I use on my forks & shock behind the collar and it's been a lot quicker/smoother since.

Can you get it via Cycle to Work ? I got mine through the scheme so effectively half price. Ironically I do cycle into the office but that bike I bought outside the scheme.

Price isn't what has held me back with an ebike.
But no I don't think they do we don't have a HR team only a small company so they don't do a lot of stuff like that.

My son wants a dropper for his bike so I will try that and give it go on his bike to save buying another one.
Best upgrade if you can call it an upgrade was using a Jagwire dropper cable kit, it's a thinner wire so handles the bends much better resulting in a much lighter smoother action. Plus a Hope dropper lever.

I routinely use suspension grease under the collar to keep things running nicely.

I'll try that as well I lost the rag trying to remove the cable for it and ended up cutting the original one.
