Mountain Biking

I've finally started to use my MTB I've had in the garage for 12 months. Its a hard tail I use for just casual cross country riding. Im tall so I have the saddle up pretty high, but I'm finding it feels like the bars are quite far away. I think I'm leaning forward a bit to much too as I can get aching palms after a while, as if I'm putting a lot of weight through my hands.

My stem is pretty long (prob 4" or more) so I was thinking about getting a shorter one, possibly with a decent amount of rise in it too in order to bring the bars closer to me and up a bit. Is this the best plan for what I'm experiencing, or should I be looking at different areas?

Ah so we can still be Bird Buddies? ;)
Speaking of shipping - wtf is mine?

Yes, unless I start road riding I won't have another bike for a looooong time!

Bird posted on FB this morning that they're closed today :(

Pending a test ride at Swinley today, it looks like I've sold my Bird Zero.1 :D

Get what you wanted in the end?

Still got my frame, though now I've ended up with spare stem, bars, fork well I may as well just build the Zero up too.

Yarr it be shipping today :D

:D

Is your bike the right size for you?

4" so probably 100mm stem? I'd try a 50mm stem and see how you get on. If you need the bars higher, then get some swept bars.

Hey all, after a bit of advice. Just started to learn how to jump properly, found a good jump that isn't to steep and you get a lot of speed into so you just fly over it without doing anything. However, hit it today, say 5-6 times to practise, the second to last time i found my feet slipping off the pedals a bit, i thought nothing of it and went for it again, this time on landing feet came off went flying forward, then dragged the bike sideways (bent the rear mech :( and smashed me leg a bit).

At the moment we are just rolling off the jump and clearing it with speed, not really pumping the lip if that makes sense.

But question is what am i doing wrong, is it body position? feet angle? not committing enough?

I have 5.10 shoes and quality flat pedals, so i know its ME making a mistake as im still learning just want to know what haha.

cheers :D

Right - that's the boys kitted out with proper mountain bikes - time to get some adventures planned!

Need to find somewhere in the North West that's kid friendly.

Impossible to tell online dude... maybe video yourself and we can couch-critique. It won;t be just one thing either, it will be a combination of them.

What exactly are quality pedals? Like cow said hard to tell, sounds like an angle of foot + poor grip thing but a video would help.
