Mourinho Sacked! Solskjær new interim manager

I don't see any manger doing any better with those players especially the back line.

What nonsense. It may not be a title winning squad by any means, but performances have been absolutely dire and the dressing room was becoming more fractured every day.

You can’t allow damage like that to continue. We’d have been better off with no manager at all than sticking with Mourinho.

As Baz has said, correctly, that Solskjaer just has to unite the players, the club and attempt to play football on the front foot. He doesn’t need to win anything, or worry about things beyond this season. He already has plenty of goodwill from the fans.

That said, if he did an amazing job I’m not sure what would happen regarding Poch. Either way he’s a safer bet long term.

Where have Man Utd failed since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement?

Yes it's been a disaster night mare time for united..

FA Cup winners, League Cup Winners and a UEFA Cup Europa league win.

Failure!!

Maybe they just needed to keep their feet on the floor instead of thinking the are invincible and better than everyone else then maybe hey wouldn't be in the (so called) position they are in.. But it's a far cry from failure... People forget the torrid times Fergie had in the early days. You're only as good as your current team.

No CL or League winners though. THAT is failure because United as a brand and history are around the same ballpark as Bayern/RM/Juv

Bayern and RM do not compete with 5 other clubs for their league though do they.

Losing to like Sevilla after two tepid performances was woeful. Their who squad is worth less than lukaku.

We had 4 shots on target in 180 minutes of football.

This is nothing to do with their being 4 or 5 competitive clubs in our league. Infact that competition should make us stronger so we really blow away teams like Sevilla.

We got outclassed by Valencia twice.

All I hear are excuses.

That's not the issue at all really. It's the atmosphere he has created, and the performances on the pitch. All aspects have been dire. The players all dislike him immensely, that is absolutely clear.

He had to win the Europa League or his first season would have been a complete and utter failure, given the league performance.

I agree though that even in our current state, things have still been won, which is somewhat comical.

I would have settled for one of them trophies.

The "current team" Moyes inherited had just strolled the league, its had £700m spent on it since Moyes left and it looks no better than when he was there.

I have yet to see a Man Utd fan claim that they are invincible or better than anyone else. There is simply a belief that for the level of investment the squad has had it would be nice to have a go at playing some decent football and perhaps get the players playing to close to their best. if that results in finishing 4th or the odd cup or even no cups then so be it.

.
The "current" team as you called it was also on its last legs - RvP never played a decent season after SAF left, the whole defence needed replacing (and practically still does) - the palava with Di Maria who just needed an escape from RM for 12 months before PSG could buy him , + a squad that's been selected by three completely different managers.....+ one completely nuts Exec Vice -Chairman that knows nothing about football what so ever (and even now wants to select targets because they are cheap rather than the best target)

Yet again (admittedly with an axe to grind from the source) the Vice Chairman agreed to a deal to extend a contract that in the end cost a huge amount more for a player that has very limited ability just because he sat on his hands for months

Having Phelan back could be a stroke of genius, he's a connection to the Ferguson days and I thought it was a mistake when Moyes got rid of him.

Or its another disaster waiting to happen. So what if Phelan is connected to SAF, he also left and couldn't manage it on his own straight afterwards.....so now 5 years later he is great again , I don't think so

Someone who is available (even from history) and cheap isn't necessarily great let alone genius. There were also questions just after he left about how good he was - without question he will have gotten worse since that point (being out of the game for that long).

Its a limited length of appointment so that's the only saving grace. There might be an improvement in wins (especially given the next few games which are all definite winnable games) but will be interesting to see how long they can both keep that feeling going especially up to the Spurs game in Jan and past that.

But yes great interim appt there Utd lol. Would have been better to stick with Mou till end of season then look at alternatives.
.

Depends on which contracts were not being agreed because Mou was still in the job....already rumours Martial and De Gea were not willing to agree new deals without Mou leaving

Even before you consider the commercial signing of Pogba and the situation there....

You're the last person I expected to quote a stats article after the amount of times you've rubbished them in the past @FrankJH

perhaps don't assume I was referring to the stats in that case (which was a very small part of the article)

I guess you're not familiar with statsbomb - they analyse players and transfers purely through their stats. The first half of the article is looking at Utd's performance level this and last season from a stats point of view and then they look at the areas that need upgrading - as mentioned, something which would have been determined by their stats.

You've just found yourself agreeing with the conclusions of some stattos, maybe this stats nonsense isn't so bad afterall ;)

Was editing the thread title AGAIN really necessary mystery Mod? I'm grateful for the change from 'Mourinho out!' to 'Mourinho Sacked!' but the further addition wasn't really necessary IMO.
