Solskjær's tactics in brief from those who follow Molde and have seen his side up against some half decent teams (like Zenit): he uses an attacking 4-2-3-1, lots of pressing and width, cites Pep as an influence. Not that our players are ideal for such a system, but it'll be an interesting experiment.

Was editing the thread title AGAIN really necessary mystery Mod? I'm grateful for the change from 'Mourinho out!' to 'Mourinho Sacked!' but the further addition wasn't really necessary IMO.
The thread is now discussing Mourinho's sacking and Solskjær's appointment so it's better if the thread title makes that clear.

Utd missed a trick here, they should have got big Sam, he is a specialist in relegation battles and that's where you will be soon................

Gary Neville saying the club has to go all out for Poch when possible.

There's a debate show with Neville on Sky Sports tonight at 10pm for anyone interested.

It's a bit sad that since SAF left it seems like I've spent more time wanting our managers sacked than enjoying the football. But I don't think I or the fanbase have been particularly unreasonable. You can't honestly say that Moyes, LvG or Mourinho were good appointments or did a good job worthy of keeping the position. It doesn't take years to implement your philosophy, whatever that may be.

Well two things i'll say about Moyes is he wasn't given years and he wasn't given anywhere near the funds that LvG or Mourinho had.

TBH, anything he comes up with can't be worse than the dross Mourinho served up.

The "current" team as you called it was also on its last legs - RvP never played a decent season after SAF left, the whole defence needed replacing (and practically still does) - the palava with Di Maria who just needed an escape from RM for 12 months before PSG could buy him , + a squad that's been selected by three completely different managers.....+ one completely nuts Exec Vice -Chairman that knows nothing about football what so ever (and even now wants to select targets because they are cheap rather than the best target)

Yet again (admittedly with an axe to grind from the source) the Vice Chairman agreed to a deal to extend a contract that in the end cost a huge amount more for a player that has very limited ability just because he sat on his hands for months

None of that negates that the team won the league with ease that season that Fergie left and has had £700m spent since so people suggesting that United fans are somehow entitled are wide of the mark IMO. Its simply a case of expecting to see more for that investment that what has been seen. Ive said it before but I don't think the club has signed a single player since Fergie left who has improved his game in a red shirt. To me at least that is unacceptable.

The current side may not be a title winning team but it has a great keeper, the defence as poor as its been only let in 28 goals in the league last season. I would argue that if a manager can get Pogba, Sanchez, Lukaku and Matic playing to the form that they showed at their previous clubs and injected some confidence into Martial and Rashford there is a far more capable team that we have seen this season so far. If that was to happen I think most United fans would be happy with that for starters.

Opposition fans are just enjoying United being **** at the moment and they are more than welcome to. They are just on the wind-up with the entitlement crap.

No United fan I have spoken to since Ferguson thinks we have a god given right to be at the top of the league etc but they do complain about the fact that we have spend huge amounts of money, the sort of amounts that should have us close to City in terms of the team and we are miles off the top 5 teams. Its like watching your talented and clever friend become a drug addict and waste all their potential while their parents throw money at rehab that isn't working. We still have the funds and ability to turn it around and I really hope this is the start of some structural changes that have been sorely needed for the past 5 years.

Actually yes it does
As non-football people are choosing the targets, no matter how much money is spent on players its never (or certainly highly unlikely ) to ever make up a team of XI let alone a good squad.
Given that Fergie let the ball drop in just patching up the squad for his last few years, rather than leaving a decent squad to grow into also made the situation worse and serious funds would have had to be spent no matter what.

With 4 different managers (not to mention the above) the spend is always going to be complete mix of players some which any "current" manager will like, and others that are less likely to be "his type of player". This is always going to be the case when managers come and go so frequently.

I love Martial and Rashford, but their age doesn't help them. Very rare players of that age are consistent in the first place even if they are able to be played in one position.

Last years defensive record was a combination of DDG having an absolute blinder game after game and the likes of Smalling / Jones/ Bailly etc getting away with mistakes that in the end didn't lead to goals. They are still making the same mistakes and this season Utd are being punished. It was quite evident last season these mistakes were being made game after game.

i bet it would be worse, his a worse manager then Mourinho.

IF the players believe in Ole more, they may play with more freedom and better suited to their new roles....its no gaurentee, but its not cut and dried as much as you are implying either

I guess you're not familiar with statsbomb - they analyse players and transfers purely through their stats. The first half of the article is looking at Utd's performance level this and last season from a stats point of view and then they look at the areas that need upgrading - as mentioned, something which would have been determined by their stats.

You've just found yourself agreeing with the conclusions of some stattos, maybe this stats nonsense isn't so bad afterall ;)

I agreed with something that I can see with my own eyes nothing to do with any stats

Depending on who uses them stats can be complete bs or accurate depending on how its phrased.....20% success rate is also 80% failure (at a very basic level)

At the end of the day I agreed with sentiment and actually written words, nothing to do with stats - where ever they were drawn from is completely irrelevant

Exactly. If Mourinho wasn't such a toxic manager then I wouldn't be so positive about seeing a turnaround but he has never left a job where he hasn't turned pretty much the whole squad against him along with most of the staff, management and fans.

If Mourinho had just got his head down and got on with his job he would still be here now and he would probably have some money to spend in January. Its the way he dealt with everything associated with the job that made him impossible to keep and killed the team spirit. There is a damn good reason he wasn't given the money he wanted to spend over the summer. We would just be here at the end of the season with Mourinho claiming that the £150m he spent the previous year wasn't enough. He could change the first XI twice over in 5 years and still tell himself it wasn't his squad. I wonder if he considers any sacking he has had to be even slightly he own fault.

We're not expecting miracles but at the same time we easily have a top 4 squad so even an average manager who keeps the players happy and motivated should be a big improvement on Mourinho. If we get EL and play some good football at times before the end of the year I will consider Ole to have done a fine job.

Just don't start acting like Arsenal fans when you beat the next 5 easy opponents :p

If things do go well on the whole, the club have an £8m deal in place with Molde to keep Solskjaer as permanent manager. While this may not happen, it’s a good incentive to see if he can make it work at the top level. Seems he’ll have some sort of say in the upcoming transfer window too.

That would be classic United. Solskjaer gets 5th in the league and we play OK and come the summer he will be given a 3 year contract on loads of money. Cue another 2 years of rubbish before he is sacked.

We need to go for a quality manager who will coach the side properly and we need to put the right structure around him. We need a manager like Poch or his ilk.

Who was poch when he went to Southampton? A absolute nobody. His record at Southampton wasn't exactly grand either. It is a big if but if he were to come good he is perfect for longevity which is what we strive for. No chance of him being poached because he isn't Spanish speaking and his heart is at the club.
