Mourinho Sacked

So you'd rather not win something...then win something?:confused:

Yep. I would rather nearly win the pinnacle of footballing achievement and watch my team play the best teams in the world on the way vs a domestic cup competition played against dross from the lower leagues and then the same teams you play week in week out in the PL.

I don't understand the obsession with trophies. I want to watch my team play good football, I want to watch my team play against other good team and I want to see them play in europe against european elite so that its a clash of styles.

I have to agree here - the league cup really is meaningless for the bigger teams. Im really not sure why Pep loves it so much (I guess given their investment in the team in the last 5 or so years its better than "just " 2 or 3 titles

To be honest with the amount of football on tv (even prior to covid) FAC isnt as romantic as it was back in the 80's when I was at school when it was the only football on tv and was an "event" every single time.

edit - Ive thought for a while now the League cup should be U23's for the bigger teams, at least then the kids would get a real taste of football rather than the basically useless league there is now.

Will be interesting to see where JM ends up - end of his PL journey I suspect

Is it as meaningless as not winning anything?

You cant surely be comparing the audi cup to the league cup???

The importance of trophies is entirely up to the fans and the teams competing. If you look at the team selections of the big teams in the domestic cups you will see how much they care about them. They take CL group stage games more seriously than the entirety of the cup competitions in a lot of cases.

The domestic cups used to be important and have a lot of value to clubs. These days they don't really care about them that much.

If Pep loves it it's because his team is successful in it - and the reason they are successful is because they have a extremely good squad where their backup players are worth tens of millions of pounds, often full internationals.

Man City don't do well in the League Cup because they are taking it significantly more seriously than others, they do so because even when they rest players they still have a very high calibre of player on the pitch, a better team than the vast majority of opponents. Obviously all the 'big six' have decent squads but the likes of Spurs will typically have to put out a few weaker or less experienced players.

League Cup or FA Cup needs to go, we only need one domestic cup. That would cut down fixture congestion a bit for the big clubs who are invariably fighting for it.

I'd rather watch anything that doesn't involve Mourinho, horrible man with a horrible football style (that's style very loosely, in inverted commas).

You cant axe the FA cup. League cup can go

Why? It's only been won by one of the big teams year in year out for the last 30 odd years barring Portsmouth and Wigan.

I like the occasional round 3 giant killing but it doesn't mean much as a competition these days unfortunately.

It isnt necessarily about who wins the competition. You try telling Barnet they arent allowed to go to a full Old Trafford.

I can't understand any football supporter preferring to win a second-rate domestic cup, to making it to the CL final, the pinnacle of football competition. The best clubs from the best leagues in the world.

Even when I was living on the other side of the world, the CL final was a huge event, masses of people staying up and out for a 4am kick off.
