Moving to the North

I’ve lived and worked all over the Northeast including Middlesbrough. At your price range you would be able to get what you wanted in a new build style estate which will be completely fine (not brand new), or an older style house detached. You go and view the house and get a feel for the area. Plenty of horrible places to live down south, and don’t forget you can’t choose your neighbours so being detached is a bonus. There are some lovely places I’ve been with some very nice areas some people would write off, such as Hebburn, Jarrow, Boldon, Cleadon, South Shields, Whitburn. I would prefer somewhere like that than Middlesbrough personally.

Is Middlesbrough worse than Wolverhampton, Bradford and Stoke ?

Those are the 3 grimmest places i've been in the UK.
No chance. Birmingham is by far the worst I’ve seen. I’ve never wanted to get out of a place as fast.

There must be some good areas surely?
There's nice parts to Birmingham, plenty of expensive gentrified suburbs, same as any city. The centre is pretty grim though.

Went to Leeds for the first time in decades a while back, and was pleasantly surprised how nice the central shopping area is, not that I'm much of a shopper.

If your minimum requirement is a detached then that really limit things, sure you can't accept a semi-detached?

After so many aweful neighbors we really don't want a party wall with someone. Our ideal home would be a detached two bedroom place with a decent garden. Not easy to find even upping the budget to 230

Detached 2 beds aren't exactly a common build.

Actually not a bad area! If you don't mind near Wales but still in England and about 90mins from Bristol.

Spend £30k updating it, job done!

If structurally sound, the outhouse's roof might need replacing looking on Google Maps but imagine how much it'd be if it's near London.

Most people visit one part of a city and make their mind up about the entire place.

Birmingham is huge and so like any large city you have nice parts and awful parts. I work near to an area called Witton right by the Aston Villa stadium and it's absolutely horrific - but I live right by Harborne which is lovely.

Although saying that we've decided it's time we moved so we're currently considering where on the south coast to go...

@timmothy amazed no one had asked yet...

What are your family's sports and hobbies? Do you like countryside, mountains or cities? Do you need access to a decent school etc?

That does look incredible.

Personally I'd venture a little bit further North to Newcastle/Gateshead and the surround areas. It's a much nicer city than Middlesborough from what I've experienced.

We were wondering that but then you don't have the national park on your doorstep. Also prices are much higher in the decent areas
