MP Gaming -- would you cheat if you could?

I've never cheated. Dont think I ever would. Now most of the FPS I play via steam, I've had my steam account for years now. If my id got banned its like losing your reputation as a honest gamer. I think that more than anything deters me from even trying a hack.

Although in my heyday in Counter Strike I've been accused of cheating quite a few times, but because i was a regular on the same server that guy was always laughed at, a compliment to my skillz:cool: I was one with the mouse in those days. Now..My mouse wrist feels like Ephialtes in 300.:( Getting old sucks lol.

I tried them out once back in the days of CS to see what the fuss was all about, and I honestly played better without them (I used to be fairly decent at CS).

I guess if you played with them a lot you might get good at using them but I uninstalled and went back to no hacks mode, tbh I would prefer to do my best and lose than cheat and win, it's just not good competitive spirit otherwise.

Cheating is the root of the really lifeless individual, is it really THAT important. I'm not a big gamer but I did get wound up playing BF2 when it's obvious people are cheating. You sit there shooting bazooka's at them and they simply stand there and take you out with a stick. Nothing better than a blat of BF2 in a team with 5 or 6 mates, all smashed off your tree in a map with other 30-40 year old's also smashed off their tree. Lots of shouting, lots of laughing, great action and zero skill. Soon as the hero 10 year old pitches up we move maps. :D

Where do i say that they are fine to use?

I'm saying that its not black and white - them OR us. More likely it is US & us. (talking in riddles but meh). The cheater is part of the community - you might not know it but they are. Cheats just get more complex - but it isnt in the interest of for example Punkbuster devs to throw up their hands and say "we cant stop squat"

Most assuredly the hacking player is getting a clear, unfair advantage and it would be a wonderful world if a game could autodetect with 100% accuracy who is cheating and the game would then execute its own counter-cheat code that rendered hardware unusable on the cheater's pc. That is a fantasy though.... btw i didnt just make all this up coz im bored and like arguing with folk i have spent quite a few years on this....

What on earth is your point?

Cheating is bad, removes most of the challenge and hence most of the fun from playing the game how its supposed to be played - and the fun for other people playing which is incredibly inconsiderate.

Who cares about a few extra variables like inefficencies in teh network or collision detection code, or that someone else might be using cheats or lagging which means the hax aren't always 100% efficent... at the end of the day its the same sorry story...

I guess your trolling but your trying to talk like some kinda authority on the matter but you don't come over as convincingly so...

Cheating simply takes the fun and the challenge out of the game for yourself and others. There ain't no pure adreiline rush from cheating.

I've only ever used a hack/cheat once online.

This was back in the day of medal of honor etc (something like 7+ years ago). Me and a friend founds out that with a small edit, bushes/hedges (which were all over some of the outdoor levels) would appear invisible.

Only a small hack, but was really funny for the few weeks we tried it.

What's the point in cheating, after all by using any form of cheat you're admitting (to yourself anyway) that you're a loser and that you need help to stand a chance at playing as good as anyone else. If you really are good, you won't need to cheat will you?

The only online game I play is BF2.

I have never cheated. I started off crap in summer 2005 and currently on an infantry only server I get Kill: Death ratios (as a sniper) of between 2 and 10.

I found the progressive improvement rewarding. I have spent around 330 hours on BF2, which over 4.5 years works out as 1.4 hours a week - So yes I do go outside:D

If I could cheat I would think I would have given it a bash at some point very briefly, but most games ban you if you cheat, which imo is good.
I still to this day get annoyed at people demo hopping on bf2142 and using demo to propel themselves to building tops on bf2. Whilst these are glitches rather than actual cheats, I find them equally as frustrating.
