MSI 290X LE quick review and thoughts

^ Not really as you've picked different users (cards) :p
lol, whoops. :D

Wow one example. Have a cookie etc.

Time to stop I think. We don't agree. Tough life moves on.

Enjoy your GPUs.

Yes, the one example that you brought up in the first place...
You are right though, it is time to stop.

Oh, and while I'm sorry it dragged on this long, you've got a bit of a nerve acting like you're above it all, Greg. When it suits eh?

Alt+enter isn't switching to windowed mode :(

I have got my new Startech lead and still 120Hz is a no go :( It works for a few seconds before flicking on and off, so have reverted back to 60Hz :( £35 down the swanny

Sorry Greg I'm not familiar with the cable you're using. Can you check to see if it's on the Display Port 1.2 certified cable list?

LOL. I've said what I have to say. I still feel the same as when I posted my first opinions of 3-4 way GPUs for gaming, still hasn't changed.

Difference is I'm totally ready to drop it now.

So ready to drop it that you've reported him for pretty much nothing and are still replying to him needing the last word

I am a bit worried on doing that Shankly, as if it does what it did before, that means I have to get one of my other monitors back out the box and connect that as well, otherwise I just get a black screen and can't change anything.

I get this when having 2 monitors connected up to a 290X. An Asus 120Hz and a 1440p DGM monitor. What I do is boot with the Asus monitor then connect the 1440p monitor whilst on desktop to get a signal. ****ing daft.

DP cable Greg?? have you tried in a different spot on the card? *never know* from what Matt has said 144hz should be fully available on 19th.

I'm using dvi-d cable on my LG 120hz and I get 120 without issue on my PCS+ 290; when you installed did you ddu nvidia drivers? *shouldn't make a difference in win 7/8 but sometimes it does*

also which connection spot are you using on the monitor maybe move one over? if possible.....stranger things have been known to happen. my monitor has no dp only dvi-d and hdmi.....so if I want me to test anything give me a shout

Might be useless, might not.

Did you do an OS reinstall after switching brands Greg?

When I got my 7990 I did all of the necessary gumpth before putting the 7990 in (had 670 SLI before) but it wasn't working very well. Did a OS reinstall and it was fine.

Before I get jumped on.

Yeah, I know that you shouldn't have to reinstall Windows when going from one card to the other but it does at least eliminate any traces of old drivers. And yeah, I know there are apps for that and so on too.

I gather I have missed some discussion here, but can I ask Gregster, why you decided to go the single 290x route from 3 (!) Titans?

I will be going for Titan Xs and the time was right to sell my Titans. I have been itching to try Mantle out, so it made sense to grab a 290 (the X was only a couple of quid more). I was very tempted to grab 2 of them but then my review would have looked biased, as the games I play don't have crossfire profiles. And with me being a green fan, I would have been jumped on as well.

The 290X is a great card and at £250 with Saturday delivery, a real steal. Very pleased with it and if I could get 120Hz working, I wouldn't have a single fault.
