MSI gtx 670 Power edition "none oc" edition owners thread

hey guys, just gonna chip in on this thread too, I purchased the MSI GTX 670 Power Edition (OC version) for £200 a few weeks back, here are some test results from my card:

Only benchmark program I really have is 3DMark, I ran the Firestrike test.
Highest core clock = 1241 MHz
Highest memory clock = 3005 MHz
Max fan speed = 45%
Max temp = 61°C
ASIC quality = 88.9%

this is all at stock settings, I haven't overclocked anything manually.

How do these figures compare the the £160 "non-OC" versions of the card..?

You have a good one. good asic quality and great stock boost.

mine boosts to only 1150mhz without any overclocking and won't overclok any further. Some of these non OC versions are managing that.

So i paid £38 more for.....nothing. Its going back or i want the difference refunded to be honest.

If i had yours i would keep it. You could probably push it a bit further.

No bad feedback it's a brilliant card but I am a bit miffed that it's not clocking or is it? Look in my above post.

Still weird I didn't get a manual or install CD though.

Open the box take all the bottom foam out lift that black sheet of cardboard with the hole in the middle, the cd and manuals are under there. Strange way to pack em by hiding them like but there u go.

Just cleaned up my drivers with driver sweeper and re-installed all the Nvidia drivers and now both my cards are boosting to 1255 on the core. Memory is stock.

Very happy with that. Will test some more over the weekend.

Thats with raising the core offset? How much did you raise it by?

Yeah, I was a bit miffed when they announced the exact same model for £40 less, until someone explained it was for a non-OC version.

I'm happy with my overclock, it seems to be fairly high (higher than a standard 680 by the looks of it). The GTX 670 already eats up every game I throw at it, so I don't really see the need to push it any harder un-necessarily at this stage.

I'm defo gonna keep an eye on this topic though, I do think it kinda sucks if you can't seem to get your card to clock faster than the £160 ones, and it would be very disappointing if you were not reimbursed in some way by OCUK.

No mate thats stock drivers only installed. Have yet to install OC software again but tbh I doubt I will bother as more than happy with the clocks.

How have they gone from boosting to 1100mhz at stock to now 1255mhz at stock? Drivers are not going to change their kepler boost value.

and this is with the £160 cards, right..? without manually changing any settings using an overclocking program..?

That psu is going to steal the air from the left fan on that bottom card. I would turn the psu around if it was me.

I will sort it all later as just chucked them in to test. Although the bottom card runs very cool and quite. The top is a few .c higher but still nice and quite.

£161 Gibbo special from yesterday. Remember anything over stated OC is not guaranteed. The silicon lottery has had me a few times but this time I seem to have done ok with CPU and GPU's..

fair enough I guess.

still, you gotta see that it's pretty annoying for all the folks that spent £40 more than you per card on the same models to get worse clock speeds.

leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

Very bad taste. I feel a bit fleeced if im honest. At least you got a decnet clocker.

Though moogleys 1255mhz clocks with no fiddling with the core offset sound incredibly high when the stock boost is only what 980mhz? That is a kepler boost of 275mhz!!? Why did he say they were 1100 at one point then 1255 the next?

Not really anything to do with the silicon lottery. We are talking about out of the box speeds here. Why should a customer who buys the more expensive "overclocked" version have a less powerful card that doesnt actually boost as high? So essentially a worse card for £40....

It isnt right.

I have removed the AMD drivers so it could have been that. They are 1155 on Heaven valley but Crysis 3 they drop down to 1105 or very close to that with the top card a bit below. Spllinter cell they sit at a constant 1255 give or take a few points. I imagine as I'm only at 1080p they are not under much stress so boost up a bit.

I will give them a good testing over the weekend and see how they perform.

would like to see an official response to this question tbh.

If you are not happy post in the CS section and see what can be done.

I'm already on to it via webnotes.

So in unigine yours boost to 1155? Mine only boosts to 1150 therefore my "overclocked version" is only equal to your non overclocked version of the card.

Surely that is simply false advertisement.

I wouldn't be using the web notes personally, they're no where near as fast.
Completely see where you're coming from.

But, it's not like they meant to make the situation happen.

It's a tough one. A case of their own success biting them in the rear.
