MSI GTX780 Lightning due 07/08/13

Yep stock appears over due. I'd bet many unhappy lightning fans are waiting for stock of them to go live.

Many have gone classified after MSIs marketing blunder... Didn't the 780 lightning hit 7k in fire strike extreme? Was that on air or LN2?!

Kingpin hit 1410mhz on air with a Classified, though no doubt it was cherry picked, most of the lucky yanks that have them are sitting around 1300-1400mhz.

It is however aimed at the same crowd as the Lightning, subzero and water coolers.

Guys when you say about voltage locked cards etc on an Nvidia GPU. It is not the Manufacturer be it EVGA, ASUS, MSI etc who lock these down its Nvidia themselves.

We know, which is why we're all waiting so much on the Lightning (as we know it will have back door unlocked voltage) and Classified (as it has evbot). Voltage locked i.e. reference GK110 doesn't interest me in the slightest, voltage unlocked GK110 on the other hand...

Not only did Nvidia try kill overclocking, they nearly killed off watercooling their GPU's, as without moar volts it becomes pointless.

I would not bank on these old work arounds working with the new cards. I am not saying they don't as I don't need to try but MSI lost allocation of Titan GPU because of what happened with 680 Lightening. Nvidia do not support overclockers.

Yeah, afaik all the work arounds are 3rd party hex edits for afterburner, I was/am expecting lightnings to arrive with only the standard +38mv available :)

Nvidia can't moan about 3rd party hacks surely?

Quite a few I'd imagine, especially as they appear to be well priced for what they are. The only stumbling block is European availability.

Very tempted to just grab a used 580 to tide me over until October.

You want my 7970 bud? Selling on the MM is a joke. £190 and people still try to haggle you down.

Nvidia do not support overclockers.

Nor should they, It's totally unfair. Full custom cards should not have a warranty, If you want to play hard expect to Pay hard !

More likely we live in such a mamby pamby world manufacturers would not be able to do that !

There's a few on the MM atm, all within the £200 - £230 mark, none of them seem to be selling, mine is fully blocked up with a backplate, it's a decent little clocker....nobody seems to want. It can't possibly be because of the blown fan header, that's a minor fault and works perfectly regardless.

I'm just waiting to get a message back from Chris to see if he still wants, if not i'll either let Paul keep hold of it till the 9970s come out of slap it back in my loop and put 1.5v through it.

I did not realise it was so hard to shift HD 7970s, it looks like mine will be with me for a while.

Think it's hard to shift anything nowadays. It's about time GPU's had a socket on them....might get a couple of generations from a card :D
Trouble is the card is so low value compared to the chip that's never going to happen !

Yeah all these cuts have killed the second hand market for sure, glad I managed to shift my 7970's for a good price a few weeks back.

Thanks for the offer tonester, would you mind if I just hung on to the 470 for another week or so? Give me time to get a better idea of what's happening.

Don't know why everyone is up in arms. Just wait for AMD new lineup or the 800 series. I'm not going to bother with either card. I would seriously wait for what AMD are bringing. I wont waste more money for something that might be obsolete in 2 months time.

Ridiculous to suggest a 780 will be obsolete any time soon. Even if new cards come out tomorrow it dosnt make it any less powerful does it?

Especially at clocks that should be achievable, rough guesses suggest 1350-1400mhz would see off any unmodded overclocked titan, that's before we add water and big volts into the mixer too.

If I wanted a card for gaming right now I'd grab a 690, but I really want something I can bench and be competitive in doing so.

Any news on someone in msi's marketing dept being sacked yet? :p
