MSI GTX780 Lightning due 07/08/13

Uni loans come in just over a month. Lightning/Classified under water with v1.45 is looking damn tasty...

Think pushing v1.5 on these is safe? Under water, of course.

1.5v with a 780 will draw a massive amount of current and kick out huge heat. You guys who cant push such volts don't realize how much!!!

Titan / 780 at 1.5v is massive heat output and huge current draw!!!

Nor should they, It's totally unfair. Full custom cards should not have a warranty, If you want to play hard expect to Pay hard !

More likely we live in such a mamby pamby world manufacturers would not be able to do that !

They dam well should!!! Their top line card should be able to be made into an OC card like the 780 card can!! Titan should have OC boards.

I'm not saying I'd recommend it, but surely a good loop ran from cold would just handle 1.5v for a few mins of benching?

I didn't think gk110 ran all that hot?

So You think it fair Nvidia should replace chips Blown off the BGA by 300 Amps being put through them from 14+ phase power regulators ?

Nvidia don't replace chips, board partners do. I think what 8pack means is Nvidia should let partners like MSI offer truly custom cards. Or at least not PUNISH them for doing so...

Sorry mate, if the chip fails board partners send them back to Nvidia.

This is what came to light last year when Nvidia first started clamping down on voltage control.

I'm presuming now that on the 7xx series that Evga and MSI are taking the hit if the chip fails on their custom boards (my thoughts no proof)

In usual circumstances they go back to nvidia, fairly sure the resulting aftermath of last year's green light was if you want custom voltage, you loose warranty with nvidia on those chips. Which is probably what's happening with classy/lightning cards, if they die it comes straight out of the board partners pocket not nvidias.

See the problem is cards can now be software volt modded, so any idiot can do it. In the past it required soldering and knowledge.

There is such a simple solution to this, Allow the full custom cards but have a simple solder link that brings in the full additional power circuits. If customers solder this warranty is void.
