MSI GTX780 Lightning due 07/08/13

All wrong!, i've only done a valley run so far, it's in the thread.

Memory is crap but all the same on lightnings.

Will have a play over weekend, at work just now.

Well I spent the day playing with one of my Lightnings.
Fairly pleased with the results to be honest.

The most core voltage I have managed to get to is 1.212v
Got my ram to 1667 in GPUz = 6668 i think I multiply by 4?
Core to 1337Mhz

This is all on air cooling on the card.
My best 3Dmark11 score on the single card is 15,830 which i'm happy with. This would put the card in amongst the Titans for single card. I'm sure with a little more work I could get to 16K and with more voltage I should be able to get well into the 16k's

There is no doubt that the card can go further, it just needs more voltage.
With a fan blowing on the card, temps were well under control. A good water block that cools the memory well and the VRM's would be wonderful.

Will just try a few more benchmarks on the single card and then start working on SLI

So far... Hard work, but now I have an idea of what i'm doing... going very well.

Got SLI up and running. Had to scale back the overclock quite a bit both for Mem and Core.

Getting some good scores though
3DMark11 - 23415
Firestrike - 18449
Heaven 4 - 3041
Vantage - 77042

3DMark11 is a bit lower than I expected... I wanted 25K really so some work to do there.

Will post in each of the graphics benchmark threads in a few days.

Hi Simon

Am sure once MSI release the plimit bios all will be well for the lightning, 680 lightning was the same for the the first month or so as I recall

P.S. nice cards not really jealous :( plus pass some of that Cider this way;)

Tell you what that Vantage score of mine of 77,000 is immense looking on HBOT bearing in mind that Air cooling on card and water on CPU.

That would be top on HBOT for that combination... shame i'm using windows 8 and therefore can't submit.

Update: Installed Windows 7 and got 81,000 :)
Then realised that i'm using the GPU for Physix which renders the score invalid :(.
My valid score was 65,000 which is still excellent but not a record breaker.

I'm getting some very odd behaviour while benching and overclcoking.

I started in Windows 8 Pro.
I am able to bench at over 1340 core here with 1.212v
Then i installed Windows 7 Pro and in win 7 I can only get the core to about 1270 with 1.212v, but here is the strange things all my benchmarks are actually better with higher scores. For example Win8 3DMark11 = 23,800 where as Win7 = 24,180

Can anyone think of a reason for this behaviour?

It's a known quirk on the physics score - win7 gets a better score :(

You will also find Firestrike gets a better score on win8

Being following that thread ;)

Yep, I stuck my head in there this morning, not pretty, peeps not happy.

Nothing like launching your flagship card and then realising the card as reviewed is not the card people can buy and use. Not really MSI's fault but people are right to be angry when the reviews were written and published saying otherwise.

A bit like EVGA shipping their review cards with Samsung memory, setting a world record with said cards and end-customers ending up with Elpida and unable to replicate the results.

Had a real breakthrough with my Lightnings tonight :)

Finally got a good bios and 1.3v working. 1400 Core and 1700 ram is starting to look very possible even in SLI. I think that will be the limit on Air and even at these speeds and with 130% power I'm in danger of cooking something.
Time to end for the night, but got so nearly through Firestrike at 1400 / 1700 130% - maybe tomorrow :)

All it took was getting the right Bios combination and tools in place.
I could not be happier with the cards now...

The look great - still love the lighting.
They now clock well.
Can measure the voltage accurately.
Can switch bios and have the reassurance that if a flash goes bad the card has backup
And they are cool and quiet when run at normal speeds for day-to-day use.
