MSI GTX780 Lightning due 07/08/13

I wonder why they did the cooler like that ? Two big fans have to be better and longitudinal fins might at least encourage a little heat out of the case or at least not direct it into the motherboard.

Had a better look at the new pic last night, looks to be a pair of 10cm fans with the yellow central fan being 92mm, so the higher pressure 92mm will sit near enough direct over the core :)

I wonder what the cooler will be called? As twin frozr was always a reference to twin fans, so tri frozr or just frozr v? :p

Not long now, to top it off I'm at a clients all week next week so will have plenty of time to get one ordered :D

I am thinking about getting the twin frozer for 550. Is it just the same card with a few bells and whistles turned off?

Theoretically yes (in the sense that it will be a custom cooled pre overclocked 780), although the biggest reason to get the Lightning over any other 780 is the ability to possibly control the voltage (beyond the +38(+50*)mv we can currently do on 780's).

*Additiona 12mv through custom TI bios.

I see. Well I was thinking that I cant afford 2 lightnings but I want sli so I could pick up a twin frozer first as my second card so to speak. I was looking at benches last night and the frozer looks quite a bit faster than a normal 780 and blows the 7970 away completely. I have 2 7970s at the mo so going back to single card for a couple of month wouldnt be as bad if it were a bit faster than a standard single card. Unless there is something better out there?

I can only see one problem with me getting this card, being as it'll be on air for a few months. My case temps will rise, increasing the risk of condensation/beading for my loop :(

Not sure on how well my fans are currently setup on my case, they're all set to 600rpm atm though, what would you think the case temp would rise to with a single 780 pumping it out for 2 or 3 hours gaming? The main cause of condensation isn't necessarily the heat its the humidity, i should have probably doused my board/everything in vas before putting back inside the case :D

I never knew this could be an issue i have th v8 water cooling kit and was holding out to get one of these if its going to be dangerous then it may not be worth it

^he's using chilled water, normal wc won't suffer from any of the above as the base temp of the water will be around the same as the case air temp.

With chilled the water is maintained at a low temp regardless of case temp, the air cooled card would increase case temps above dew point of the water in the tubing resulting in beading etc...

In theory we should at least get splinter cell, as that's offered with all 700 series cards :)

I got an msi grenade screwdriver set with my 7970 lightning :p

I would imagine your lightning came either as a naked pcb or with a pot already slapped on it! We have to wait until the 7th for your results or are we going to get them before?

I'm pretty sure his Lightning looks like his owner, 100% Muscle.
