MSI MPG x870e Carbon WiFi Owners

Ok, I found curve optimizer, have to set PBO to advanced, and then additional options pop up. Also found this

02:10:27 shows a table with some settings, gives an idea, and matches what I have seen with ASUS boards, this is Godlike but at least it's sort of comparing apples.

Also a full guide using Ryzen Master, something I have never heard of. Whats folks opinions on it, try it or stick to changes in the BIOS only?

@Dr_Watson here's where you want to start with PBO, -10 negative curve, then walk your way down -5 per testing run

You can use Cinebench R23 which is pretty hard on this CPU, for cursory testing you may find at lower negative values it just might not run. If so, go back +5 and do a longer test with maybe OCCT combined cpu + ram

If it runs at -40, great, start doing longer tests, 1 hour OCCT, y-cruncher, prime95 etc

Edit, you can probably just go straight to -15 or -20 tbh

It's useful I guess, but there's so little in the way of settings for these CPUs for PBO you need to worry about that I find the interface of Ryzen Master more of a pain than doing it in the BIOS

Thanks for this. Got one of these and a 9800X3D on the way.

I tried PBO enable, +200mhz ,-30 curve, x10 scaler.

Got a nice wee increase in CB23 and CB24.

But note, I made a mistake of changing GFX Curve 1st, as it's right next to CPU Curve, so pay attention (Had same CB23 but temp was 8 deg higher reaching 88-89!).

Also, if I dont set prio High in CB23/24, I get at least 20% lower score, and the number of times I set it to high, then forget to high the "ok" button when it warns you...makes me crazy!

Will leave it like for now and get back info games, if anybody needs directions to the location of these settings in the BIOS, let me know, or I can post it tomorrow in written for.

Cheers

Who has connected up the extra 8-pin PCIe power connector? Is it really needed?

I am considering this board, however I won't have enough connectors from my current PSU for it due to my RTX4090 (using 12VHPWR adapter cable). I don't want to upgrade PSU for the moment.

It powers additional stuff, like the wifi/bluetooth modem and the USB-4 controller(s)

It's a very tight fit for me with that edge of the board against the PSU/Cable section of the case at the bottom, it's not coming back out unless I lift the whole board out!

It’s nice, but for me it’s slightly awkward to navigate, the left menu only appears when the mouse is over that area. When exiting, curve value changes are not listed in the list of things changed, so you are never sure if it really changed. And it’s slightly over complex with multiple ways to access the same menus. As soon as you get used to it, you don’t need to use it anymore!

Are you guys using wireless mouse and keyboards?

I can still only get one or the other to work in the BIOS

Never had this issue with any other motherboard ever!
Yeah, razer mouse & kb, linked to the same USB dongle.

The dongle is attached to a ugreen USB Switch though which i use to switch between PC and work macbook
