MSI to offer 55% launch-day discount on P55 motherboards

I'm hoping to get the board this week so the new build is finished for my Dad.

I must have been one of the last to order at 2:33pm with the promo deal and the gd65 .... so I hope they get plenty gd65's today or tomorrow. :D

Phoned OcUK just now (6 in the queue, hold time 11 minutes)

Cited my email from Phil Meredith saying I would be getting one.

Only info they could give me is that they are still waiting for stock, but that because I have that email, I WILL be getting one, but it will be several more days.

A courtesy email following up the orig. from Phil saying that "Shortly" actually means more like 10 days wouldn't have gone amiss.

The i5-750 falls behind whenever more than 4 threads are used by a program. That might be almost never, or quite often, depending on your personal usage model.

Beyond that, there's always the added clock speed and higher turbo modes that the i7-860 enjoys, both of which combine to make it the all around faster processor.

Personally, I feel like the i7-860 is worth a premium, but wouldn't think twice about using a i5-750 in a gaming rig for example, spending the 70~80 quid saved on a better graphics card.

For most people Hyper Threading won't make much if any difference. I have both I5,I7 and a real Dual Quad Core HP Server. I develop multithreaded software and while HT is OK it cannot replace a real core. I certainly would not pay the premium for HT. If you need more performance just buy a decent cooler and overclock the chip.

I used the webnote system to see when they would be coming back into stock and when they'd be dispatched.

I got this reply:

Thank you for your web note. We should be getting stock sometime this week, so soon as they do come in stock we will dispatch the order straight away for you.

Regards,

All the other parts for my i5-750 build have come in today and it's just slightly annoying that I've got to wait a few more days before I get it fired up.

Hope this helps in any way.

p.s I'm waiting for a G65

Still showing 9 GD80's in stock. I see no reason why my order shouldn't go out today. But then, I thought that yesterday.

Does seem ridiculous, OcUK gaining interest on your cash as it sits in their bank and not yours, ship the ones you have out to the bloody people that have paid and waited ages with confirmed orders

I don't buy the whole "oh we have normal stock and promo stock either"

While I agree that it's ridiculous (they shouldn't have taken the money before the item is in stock), with regard to the normal/promo stock this is regular practice. Suppliers, not resellers, specify which stock can be sold as promotional and which can't be, so this is nothing to do with OcUK.

That said, I would love an update one what's going on.

I can't believe we've gone from regular updates from Yewen and Fatboy last week to absolute silence this week. It's not like they haven't been online today.

The last update I had was that the last of the promo boards would be sent out last night. From what I can see hardly any promo boards have been sent let alone the "last promo boards".

I submitted a thread in the customer service section of the forum and updated it again today (as advised to by Yewen) at 1pm. That was 5 hours ago and I haven't had a reply or even an acknowledgement.

It's a real shame to be honest - I'd always heard the odd tale of poor service from OcUK, but my experiences with them have always been fantastic until now. I've placed my order on hold until I return from my holiday, and if it goes through smoothly when I get back they'll have redeemed themselves somewhat in my book. If not, I may have to start looking elsewhere.

I'm in the same boat as you. Namely I go away on holiday later this week.

Thanks to the lack of updates from OCUK do I A, Hope it's sent in the next 48 hours?, B, Arrange an alternative delivery address (but I'd need to know when it will arrive in order to do this)?, or C, Ask them to hold onto it until I get back?

I've got my 750 coming tomm, hope the board comes soon. Afraid to contact them incase I get told I'm not getting one, imagine that!

I'm sure the staff are reading this thread but they don't have any updates to tell us. I bet they are a little nervous too about getting stock of GD80 in, imagine all of us being let down?

Whilst its annoying i dont think any company would sacrifice stock when they could be selling it for full price.

That would be a fair comment if we hadn't been charged for the product. The fact is a large number of us will have actually paid for the parts which we are not seeing. Its not as if this is the normal "we'll charge your cards when they go out".

I expect any company that has charged you for a product you bought in good faith to honour the contract and despatch the item, esp when they have it in stock!

Seems like a classic case of too many order, not enough stock... but of course we'll debit your account right away regardless. Maybe the silence is due to the damage control discussion going on at the moment.

Heads up to any GD65 users, Bios 1.3 version released today.

Bios updates for these boards coming out thick and fast.

MSI are supporting the promotion so OcUK get the same whether they sell you a board at 55% off or full price.

That's why when they were over-sold Yewen went back to MSI to see if they would 'support' the promotion further and they declined.

Might chuck the beta on but I normally like to stick to official releases by the looks of it that'll be out soon anyway, cynic in me

Board temps seem to be lower with this bios might just be me though but heatsinks are cool to the touch, advantage of integrating the NB into the cpu I suppose :D
