MSI's X570 Tomahawk May Become Go-To OC Board??

Probably. I kept having disconnects randomly every maybe half hour, for 10 to 20 seconds each time.

No, it’s the 802.11ax setting. That enables wifi 6. Just choose the mode without ax but with ac (wifi 5). I believe that was the only setting that made a real difference. There’s also a sensitivity setting which sets at how low signal should the wifi switch between 2.4ghz and 5ghz. I originally thought that might have been the issue, but it didn’t do anything for me. As soon as I disabled wifi 6, no more disconnects.

Cheers, Done that, will see how it goes.

Is there a reason the X570 Tomahawk only uses CPU PWR 8 pin & 4 pin connectors? (seen at the top left)

Just different power distribution and layout. The Unify is a higher spec board nominally, though I'm not sure that there's a great deal of performance difference between it and the Tomahawk.

Thanks, best dig out the power connectors that came with my PSU!

@Rexxar Wifi dropping ? not on mine but I havent been using it a lot, it just has the "test" cpu in it atm.
I did notice a clone of my old system on SSD found network right off (was an intel system with no ob wifi, which i plugged into this board and let win10 sort out).
But a fresh install of win 10 pro 1909 didn't, until it had some updates.
I have read some people having issues with the oct win update, wifi dropping being one of them ....

@Rom, I personally just let windows sort it, then once updated I check device manager to ensure everything is as should be.
You may want to install the dragon software to set your RGB. Unless you change it regulary, I would uninstall it after its set, or at least disable all instances in start up and services.

Board only requires the 8 pin. The 4/8 pin is for additional power if you're doing extreme overclocking.
Are right, thanks. What's classed as 'extreme overclocking' water / LN2?
I wouldnt want to limit anything but only connecting one 8 pin power but at the same time if its not needed then wont bother connecting it

Still having WiFi issues, depsite disabling WiFi 6, any straightforward way to lock it to 2.4/5ghz? I wonder if it's dropping whilst switching

Edit : Was right under my nose. Will see if locking it to 5 makes a difference.

Wish i knew that before I went and bought a braided 4 pin cable

I've been running with 8 and 4 plugged in since I got my board :) I'm not doing anything particularly exciting with CPU overclocks, but I figure it can't hurt anything.

I set separate SSIDs in my router for 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks, and have the computer not remember the details for the 2.4GHz one. Then if the 5GHz side is having trouble I can manually switch to the 2.4 one to see if it's a router <-> PC problem or an internet connection problem.

I will certainly be using the 2 x 8 pin.
Skip to 04:20. The PCIe slots are powered by 8 pins to CPU on the Unify

The video still suggests it's not really necessary unless you're running crazy multi GPU setups. No harm in having it plugged in of course! Not sure I've the motivation to go through the faff of plugging in a 4 pin if it's not ever going to be useful. I don't think the braided cables I bought have a 4 pin anyway...

Yep, so i'll connect it and it wont hurt. I'm not going LN2 but might add a 'crazy multi GPU' setup in future

Hi all, I have this board and I have just ordered some Patriot viper steel ram (4x8gb 4133mhz) to go in it when I start my build but I'm now concerned about the height of the ram (sits 44mm high) and whether it is going to cause a problem with cpu coolers. I haven't yet bought a cooler that can be used on Am4 but was looking to use a Noctua U14s but I'm not sure if this will give clearance over the first ram slot or interfere at all. I have looked at all sorts of facts etc but there is nothing specific to this board. I was hoping others with the tomahawk could advise me which coolers you are using that won't interfere with tall ram on this board.

Hello there does anybody know the spec of the water pump header I've looked at the manual and cannot find any information about it. I've got a d5 pump and was wondering if it was man enough for the job.

Connecting the extra 4 won't do any harm so might aswell use it if convenient but no need to worry if you can't. The 8 pin eps12v cable can provide upto 336w which is more than enough for any Ryzen cpu
