It'll save all of your settings as far as I'm aware. One thing I did find when flashing my board recently was that it didn't then recognise the old save file, maybe because there was a big overhaul in the microcode or something, so it doesn't hurt to take pics of the various screens just in case :)

Ha, taking pictures is literally what I do every time now :D

I have my fans, just how I like them. If it saves those settings, I might more inclined to start playing about with offsets etc.

The fan settings are the worst, why all boards don't just let you type a value instead of having to drag those coloured markers I'll never know!
 
I updated the BIOS this week to the latest version (7C84v1H - 9/8/24), as I'm thinking of dropping in a 5700X3D to replace my 3900XT.

The BIOS version I was using was still the one it shipped with about 3 years ago that was pre-5000 series support.

Should I have installed some of the incremental updates before jumping straight to the latest? It's all set up fine after the flash for my 3900XT, but I'm now reading that some motherboards need the incremental updates for you to put the 5000 series chips in?

You should be okay going straight in ;) There's no warnings with any of the update versions is there? I know some vendors state the order in which they'd like you to update. The rollback feature will get you out of any issues anyway - it's saved my bacon on a few occasions, after using trashy USB sticks...

Definitey don't remember any warrnings about installing earlier versions first, just a sudden panic but thanks!

I updated about a week ago (again for a 5700X3D). I had updated the bios a few times, but not for a couple of years. Haven't seen any issues.

I do note that getting to booting windows seems to have speeded up a bit, task manager tells me it is taking just over 10 secs.

I was going to ask how people are set for booting, what settinge etc.? I set a really cheap A520 board rig up the other day with a basic nvme and it boots way quicker than my rig... I know there are loads of other variables but it definitely feels like I'm missing a trick :rolleyes:

1) I disabled the logo display
2) I *think* I disabled the mem test. I know there isn't one so dunno if it just doesn't happen or I turned it off.
3) I have a legacy Blu-ray/DVD burner, that the board waited for before proceeding, which took a good couple of seconds. I haven't needed it for ages, so I just unplugged the power lead.

What boot-up time do you see in task manager ?

Yes, fire up task manager, select the "startup" tab, and on the right hand side your see "last Bios time" stated, which AFAIK is how long on this boot up the bios took to start running windows.

17.1 seconds... I'm no expert but that feels a bit much :eek:

To compare, I just got my mate to check the A520 rig I set up last week and he's got 6.1 seconds.

Need to look at some settings in the bios tomorrow.

Wonder if it's the amount of RAM causing the slow boot?

How many sticks of RAM? If it is 4 sticks, try with 2 sticks.

Any USB hubs or external drives plugged in? Have read this can cause slow boot.

I have disabled all boot devices other than my main drive (Windows Boot Manager). Not sure if it speeds up the boot time but it will stop bios looking for other bootable drives.

Mine is around 11 seconds.

I do have 4x 16GB sticks iirc... I wonder.

No hubs or external drives powered on and the only bootable device set is my nvme.

I'll have to have a look in settings later - thanks guys!

I'd suggest it's not useful to compare with a different motherboard.

Mine was around 12secs I think on a 2-3 yr old bios plus the 3700x. Came down to just over 10secs with the latest bios + 5700X3d.

I've an Nvme drive whilst if I'm reading your sig correctly, yours is an SSD, perhaps that dials into it, but I see @freddie64 has the same drive. Make sure your boot drive is the first on the list.

Mine is 11.2 seconds, booting from a WD SN850 too.

Pretty much no tweaks, as you may infer from my post above, I don't really mess withthe BIOS at all

I disabled the logo display and got a time of 18.8 seconds :D

Updated my sig now, I actually have a 990 pro onboard. I have got 4x 16GB 3200 lpx sticks - could it be that? The bios time isn't affected by Windows startup items is it?
