Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Just got my email saying I've passed my BNUC-S :). So I can now safely say that it was pretty easy!

I got 98% which is 1 incorrect answer which is annoying as I think I know which one it is as the question was wrong; all the multiple choice answers suggested that either Maximum Take Off Mass increases or decreases with altitude. As anyone with a basic GCSE knowledge of physics knows mass != weight and either way the effect altitude has on weight is negligible. Annoying!

Don't know whether to mention the question and query the mark either, given I've still got my flight exam etc to go :p.

Still, glad that's all done and we also ordered our S1000 setup today too.

Good job.
Maximum takeoff mass reduces with altitude by the way. The air is thinner so there's less thrust available, meaning that you can't lift as much mass.

Just FYI, the CAA released another clarification to the regs for UAS-s yesterday. They pretty much said that even stating that you will be qualified in the future on a website with respect to canvassing for potential business is an offence and is classed as commercial activity.

They're really cracking down.

Rilot, you still have F550, Phantom 2 and S800 ?. My 550 is just about done and folllowed your advice on that little video switch, once fitted i'm done (well apart from some decent props maybe and some strobon lights). The thing has wires running everywhere... almost given up on tidy wiring. My thinking is by tieing up tons of wires into bundles you could induce glitches / interferance etc

I shortened the wires I could by cutting and soldering. The ones I couldn't (CAN bus etc) I just curled up and popped one of those ferrite rings on them.
I've never had any issues and my F550 is pretty tightly crammed in there.

Of course! Save this and show it to the Mrs next time she complains about you buying too much :p

There's still a bit to come as well including 3 more batteries, which incidentally are huge (2200mAh from the Phantom for scale). Plus the 24mm lens and a few cables etc.

Going to have to get some massive LiPo bags!

Niiiiiice.
Just be careful with that A2. I'm still not convinced by it and am actually considering flogging it and getting a WKM.

Well, almost there :p. Few problems - the very middle screw is stripped so I can't install the GPS module yet. Need to work out how to get that out!

Also I believe our batteries connectors were installed by the shop but they don't match/fit the connectors of the S1000 .

Rest of it was actually ok!

OK, ordered an H3-3D with adaptor and the tall/wide legs. Selling the Phantom 2 is out the window for now. :)

Toying with ordering a new Tx/Rx as I *really* want a video switcher - is it a case of pulling the connectors out of the existing Rx and put them 1 for 1 into the equivalent on the new Rx?

That S1000 looks amazing. You don't hang about Russinating!!!...though neither would I with a toy like that.

These DJI flight controllers make me wonder if it's all a bit of a con. So you have Naza, Wookong and A2.... I bet my bottom dollar they all use the same software core with a few bits chucked in like waypoints etc. I also imagine they use the same microprocessor and sensors.....so that just leaves packaging, A2 in nice shiny metal cases, who knows.

Maybe when you read the spec in detail they are massively different....

Where did you see that price?

Looking at their website, €1148 including shipping, with one battery?

Bit of a late reply - I've been working away!

This is the screenprint from their website :

Price is 7,999rmb including extra battery and free delivery (currently about 10.5rmb/£1, so about £760). I'm guessing because I live in China I get a better price?

Hobbyking FPV Video Switch fitted (thanks Rilot for idea). Now I can use my fixed FPV camera for flying around and when I want to see the stabilized GoPro footage being filmed just hit a switch on my TX, best of both worlds, such a simple gadget but will make a huge difference. Excuse the spaghetti above gimbal, there is a fair few wires there but I preferred leaving it there rather than routing back to F550 body.

I'm going to sell my GoPro HD Hero and swap with my GoPro Hero 3 on my Tricopter.

The quality isn't great on the HDHero and the low light performance is much better on the 3.

Good idea, but avoid the GoPro 3 White, I had one and though ok it wasn't that great. Replaced with a Black and the difference is huge.
