Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

now that i think i have calibrated everything i have to, i just cant get out to fly. yesterday was too windy and today it hasn't stopped pouring down.

This weather is just taunting me at times. I can look out my window, see glorious sunshine and by the time I've picked up my quad from downstairs it's tipping it down!
Managed to squeeze in a quick flight this morning before work and had a few issues with what I think was the radio cutting out (just died mid air) and then catching again a fraction of a second later. Couldn't have been much more than 30 metres from me so guessing some interference. Does cutting out like sound like expected behaviour for a radio issue on a KK2.0 control board?

Had the self levelling on when this happened and it caught the quad very rapidly (it was probably 90 degrees tilted forwards when it came back) - so good to know how good the self level is!

I had some issues like that, there was an error on the KK LCD though, something like "no thrust/throttle input". It seemed like a bad connection on mine as I just plugged everything back in and it fixed itself.

Oh come to think of it, when I landed it was saying no Aileron input on the LCD. It definitely was working however as it was still flyable, soon as I landed and saw it I did a receiver test and all was ok.
I'll check my cables and keep an eye out for it potentially happening again though.

I have an issue with my 250, one of the lights on the esc's is showing a constant red light when you add power but is green when there is no power.
Finally got my new esc from Malaysia, fitted it and everything is working fine. I still cant calibrate the esc's tho, I get the "throttle pass through" message on the KK but no beeps. It fly's ok so might just leave it.

Sorry I forgot to say yesterday, I sorted it in the end. I did it a different way and it worked. The motors didn't start up but the esc's beeped.

Not looking good for A2 owners :(

Just ordered two IMAX x100 touchscreen chargers that finally came in uk stock on hobbyking. Looking forward to something more reliable for my fake b6

Check them out on YouTube, maybe a gimmick but I like gimmicks :-)

Look like great little chargers, do you not go for parallel charging then?

Out of interest how does everyone monitor their batteries during flight?

Do you calculate flight time and work off that or use a buzzer or telemetry to monitor pack voltage drop off?

I just paid out £99 via Hobby King to get some gear...

1x #9171000444-0/53706 Quanum DIY FPV Goggle Set with Monitor (KIT) = $29.99
1x #STCR351305/15295 Boscam 5.8Ghz 200mw FPV Wireless AV Tx & Rx Set = $54.99
1x #Voltage-Alarm/18588 Hobbyking 2-8S Cell Checker with Low Voltage Alarm = $3.80
1x #9052000065-3/6478 IMAX B6-AC Charger/Discharger 1-6 Cells (GENUINE) = $36.99
1x #435000018/35657 5.8 GHz Circular Polarized Antenna RP-SMA (Transmitter and Receiver) = $12.60

The Boscam Tx and Rx will do 500m without better antenna but are only straight ones so opted for the Polarized ones which also increase the range not that I want to go beyond line of sight, cheap enough upgrade.

I don't see the point of the Fat Sharks to be honest... sure they are more compact but I won't be doing FPV to look cool, I want it to see cool stuff :)

I am also fed up with charging from car battery only as the charger you get with a Blade 350qx only has croc clips.

And I already have a Mobius Action Camera with FPV cables so only need to modify them a little.

Finally the package has arrived in the UK should get it in the Mail tomorow... still haven't told the missus yet about the purchase so I am ******** bricks lol

I thought I checked when ordering from Hobby King that everything was in the UK or European warehouse, sadly the Boscam gear was not so everything got sent from Malaysia so its been nearly three weeks since ordering.

Yeah looks good. I don't parallel charge as it's probably not a good idea on large 5000mah battery's. I used too with smaller ones though.

I monitor with DJI iosd display on my FPV, I land at around 10.5v on 3s.... Gives me about 15-17mins on dual battery setup

Best thing I ever did was turn off naza voltage limits... Then you decide when to land not the naza, which is a good idea if you happen to be over water :-)

Still getting on well with the charger I got from Giantshark. Think it's pretty much the same as the B6 ones. Yeh the manual is awful and the UI isn't great - but it works fine!

Nice to see a relatively affordable charger with a clear UI and manual though :)

I use the KK2.0 battery alarm on mine. Got a cable from the power harness soldered to the back of the controller and it bleeps loudly when the battery is low. Works great for flying near to me, although if I go FPV I'll look at doing something better - but imagine if I get to this point I'm likely to use a more advanced controller anyway. *shrugs*

Out of interest Flukester, how much voltage drop do you see at full throttle on the Phantom?
As a point of reference for others - I've currently got the KK2.0 set to alarm at 10.8v, I think the KK2 overreads by about .2v (based on full charge showing as 12.8 - I've assumed it's linear!) - by the time I land it's normally sitting at about 11v. However the KK2 also logs minimum voltage and that's regularly between 9 and 9.5v. Using a Turnigy Nanotech 3S, 3AH 25c battery. Not tested how much current I'm pulling at full throttle, might have to test that at some point :)

I just use battery alarms. Got a bunch of them for $3 each a while ago, slapped some velcro on them and the opposite velcro on my packs. Works well for me but I rarely venture more than 200m anyway. There's more fun to be had at ~ 3ft altitude and 50ft distance than 100ft and miles away, IMO ;)

e: Voltage sag is normal, not sure how accurate the KK is. My alarms "pip" sometimes then doing fast puchouts
