Next Project

AKA Spec me a frame :)

Due to a small oversight on my part, I have 8x 2204 2300kv Motors sat on my desk with nothing to put them on, so I need a new project :)

Does anybody have any ideas for frames? The rest of it I'm cool with. I'm almost tempted to design one myself and get someone to mill it for me out of CF.....

I was looking at this as it's cheaper version of this. However, not really sure I like the design!

This one, however looks frikkin awesome, but they don't do a hex version.

So I might steal some ideas from both and make my own unless anyone knows of any alternatives?

P.S. I also quite like the idea of the new TBS Gemini with the canted motors, but not the "pod" bit of it. I always think that sort of thing makes it look too much like a childs toy. Yes DJI & Tarot, I'm looking at you!

LoL "small oversight". I'll use that one next time I get a huge box of stuff from HobbyKing :D

I like the look of the CF hex clone tbh. It'd be rapid, any idea what prop size is supported?

I ordered them back on the 8th July from the USA as nowhere in the UK had them in stock and I didn't know about the dys1806's then either. I thought the RM had lost them somewhere as they arrive in the UK on the 1st August. I only got them today! Just go to sneak past the missus now lol.

The spider-clone is 5" props only, but those could be 5045 though I reckon. It just looks a bit cumbersome (and dangerous) with the battery and HD camera strapped underneath with no protection. I reckon most of my unplanned landings happen in a way that would destroy them pretty quickly.

it should be quite zippy though with HQ5040 props. 1.2kg thrust @ 50% and 3kg @ 100% :D

Noob here, can you spec an small multirotor for a beginner(not that much because i had an heli and i couldnt control properly)
Needs to as cheap as possible posibly under £30
Had a look and the x4 looks like its the fits properly the description
Thanks

Hubsan is the way forward. Loads of us have them alongside our bigger toys, so it wouldn't be a waste if you decide to continue in the hobby. There are lots of clones of varying quality, don't scrimp a couple of quid, get a proper x4 from a reputable seller, a pack of 5 batteries and a 5 way Hubsan X4 charger. You wont want to put it away ;)

Yep, X4 is the way to go!

Thx a lot
Should i get the camera version or just get the normal/led ( by the way whats the difference between them apart from the price?) and stick a keychain camera from the bay which is cheaper and got better quality aswell on some?

also where should i buy it apart the rainforest?

Thanks

ps: any tips for flying the x4?

A normal X4 will struggle with a keychain camera on it. It won't fly at all with both a keychain camera and a prop guard on (I've tried).

You are going to get disappointing footage anyway, so my advice is get rhw standard one, fly lots and then if you like it jump to something bigger and put a camera on that (like a 250).

Tips for flying an X4? Reset the gyro, take off, and prepare to start making excuses for why boxes from China keep arriving :)

random question - anyone got an old Parrot AR drone 1.0 they want to part with - I crashed mine and spares seem a bit overpriced!

The camera equipped X4 has larger motors, 8x20mm vs 7x20mm of the LED version (iirc) to lift it's extra weight. I also believe it has a larger battery by quite some margin... If you were feeling adventurous, you could get the camera model and remove the camera board. Would probably be even more of a rocket!*

*I only assume, the X4 2MP camera model can be bought in the UK for £42.99, while the H107L can be had for £25 or so. Is it worth the difference? IDK, the video will be dissapointing regardless :p

Just finished my new build and after the obligatory garden hover yesterday, went for a 2 battery maiden in the park today. Here's the bird:

Loving the Naze32! Default PIDs and it rocks, just need to get the yaw faster. This frame is superb, really good quality, it's the 250 pro from MIBI. It's a 190g frame but feels rock solid, 458g loaded with no battery. The new RCX 1806 motors kick ass with 5040 props. Hover with a heavy 1500 bat just under 50% throttle, and goes up like a rocket! Can't wait to take it for a FPV spin!

Looking good Genoma

Actually prefer that version frame, slightly more room and the little platform at the back is perfect for the video TX by the looks of yours.

Got any pics on how you mounted the FPV camera?

Also your still lighter than me (mine is 481g or 605g with battery)

Thanks, frame is very good ash, it will also take 6 inch props, tight but they will fit. The rx aerial is the thin grey wire you can just see it on one of the shots. Ash the front plate is exactly the right size for a fat shark camera it simply slots in and locks with friction. Superb design.

I'd give one of these a go if I were starting out again.

That looks really interesting. There's a place close to me that's doing them for £119 and they've got lots of spares in too. Bit worried about the reports of motors burning out, is this common with the RTF stuff? I've got a little Hubsan Q4 at the moment and have had two motors die on it in about a month!

Looks like I will be buying a fourth frame and a Naze 32 at some point then lol, seems every month an even better frame is out.

Hmmm,

As I mentioned above, I had swapped out the aluminium standoffs on my quad for nylon ones at the weekend. Just had a fairly low velocity argument with a tree and every single one them has stripped it's internal threads.

Soldering iron out again tonight then!

Conclusion: Longer bolts or stick with the aluminium.
