Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Got a Mobius HD for filming. Best £50 ever? It's so small / light, that I literally stuck it on with 2 bits of foam and velcro, no messing.

edit: Anyone knows what happened at 1:20 ish, felt like the voltage on the battery dropped and the power spiked or something.

You descended straight down so went through the wash of your own props which makes for a bumpy ride. Perfectly normal. Just try and descend with a bit of forward movement and you will avoid it.

Chaps, need one of these in my life now that I have a GP3+.

Want to get some good aerial shots / wildlife / action.

What's the current daddy of Quadcopters. Thinking £500 budget, probably to include a GP gimball.

£500 is barely entry level, let alone daddy level!

You'd probably be best looking into a DJI Phantom 1/2 with a Zenmuse gimbal or building one yourself to bring the cost down.

I been itching for ages now and did have the FC40 but had to take it back as a was faulty.

Been looking at the DJI Flamewheel F550.

I have Spektrum DX6i as I fly aircraft already.

Where is the best place too start? Really like the F550

Depends what you want to do, if photography then the 550 has a reasonable amount of lifting power for a gimbal and compact camera.

Quad, jack of all trades, equally as good for mounting small gimbal and gopro but not bad at hooning about either.

A 250 miniquad for the most fun you can have with a multirotor.

The 550 allows many options and seen some kits with the basic GPS for £250 delivered.

How many channels on the RX would the 550 need?

Depends what you want to do? :p

It only needs 5 channels, 4 for the normal control and one for the mode, after that you can go nuts and use as many channels as you have e.g. if you're planning on adding a gimbal and want pan and tilt you'll want a couple pots on another two channels, you can add lights, retractable skids and anything else :)

Typically you need 6 channels. 4 for flight controls, 1 for flight mode and another for either gimbal tilt or other auxiliary modes.

needs 6 ?

4 for movement
1 for IOC mode
1 for GPS / Atti modes

Then I also have

1 for Gimbal control
1 turns my lights on and off
1 switches video feed between fixed and gopro

So that's 9, I don't think a DX6i is gonna cut it :( (but hey you can treat yourself to a shiny new Taranis instead :))

edit: Rilot beat me to it

edit edit: though the 550 looks cheap once you get everything for a fully working rig it adds up to a lot of cash :(, and mine has been sitting unused for months as don't have time to fly it

That's really quite good value. If I didn't already have 3 frames, 5 flight controllers and zero time, I'd be quite tempted :D

4s will give you more lift. More MAh longer flight times. There is a shoulder to the curve though, where the benefits are outweighed by errr, the extra weight.
