Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Not really 100% sure what caused it but I was performing a software update using the DJI Gimbal Assistant software and something must have gone wrong as it would no longer initialise correctly!

I did take some photos of my F550 build but not got them on the PC and besides my layout is far from tidy! :p:o

Thanks for the tip I'll look at it before fitting then.

Always flown with my KK2 on top and battery inside when I had a similar frame (and since)
Have smashed it into the ground upside down and bent loads of pins a few times, been able to straighten them out and just carry on each time. So not worth the lack of convenience in moving it elsewhere imo.

Installed the new H3-3D gimbal (same old GCU) and it seems it wasn't the GCU that was borked but the actual gimbal unit itself as the new one initialised fine first time!

Will maybe send the other back for a warranty repair / refund.

With my F550 I did have my battery on top to start with but that was a 5000mAh job and I now run 8400mAh ones which I find work better tied underneath as others have said for stability.

I do have more room to play with on the F550 frame though in terms of where to put things - which is nice!

I have a question for those of you that have done the commercial flight test stuff.

If the place where I work asked me If I could fly my quadcopter with camera to remotely check out the safety of an area on their property that is potentially unsafe for a human to go in to or on to would at no gain for myself would I still need a commercial license?

I suspect the answer is yes.

Yes. Definitely. Sorry!

Confused.com

Installed KK2 board, powered up, all working fine. Currently trying to install the FR Sky Receiver and Transmitter but not sure I'm getting this right trying to bind etc.

I am going daft with red liughts/green lights etc - Once I think I have bound RX and TX how can I check this?

EDit - given up for the day - 2 hours of beeps/red led/green led - numerous videos/instructions still can''t seem to get it sorted - a fresh pair of eyes another day I think

Is this the Taranis/x8r combo?

Sequence should be.....

1 put Taranis in bind mode so it's beeping away

2 hold down the fs switch on the rx

3 power up the rx

4 rx should now be flashing green and red

5 power down tx then rx

6 power up transmitter

7 turn quad on - light on rx should be green

Turnigy 9XR and FrSky V8FR-II

What you describe above is as simple as it should be - however, I'm confused about the two small switches on the back (tiny little on/off switches) which appear to be part of the process as well.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id1zDfxOmZA

This is as simple as it should be - I get the beep when in bind mode from the Turnigy 9XR, I then power up the RX whilst holding down the F/S button and I get it flashing, then power off both but when I power up the rx again, it's still flashing:confused:

Like I say - another day I will have a go again.

Another different way here - http://www.frsky-rc.com/BBS/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1102

However - then watching this one - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6s064-cMXQQ - I might have actually bound it without knowing! I'm sure I had green lights! Anyway - will look at it all again another day!

sorted - fired up tonight - green lights are on and reciever and tx are talking to each other great!!

Now for some tidying up, top plate to go on and velcro for battery and then props to be added for some basic tests inside the house.

Technically got to wait for christmas as the receiver is coming from Santa (to keep the kids happy) - not sure I can wait that long to get it out and flying!!

Pictures to follow!

Boom - working Q450!! A bit of confusion but ended up needing to reverse a couple of the servo inputs to get it to act properly on the floor (aileron, rudder test etc) but all good!!

Chuffed to bits that I've managed to build it so far, testing outside is going to have to wait a bit as the weather is mental, I need to sort the wiring a bit more, make sure it's balanced properly as well

Very nice, good work. Be careful of the props if you are indoor testing ;) Always take them off for stuff like ESC calibration. You really don't want to be known as THAT guy who lost his nose to impatience :D

yeah - I was testing in the open plan rear of the house and hit a few of the kitchen cabinets and it leaves some size of mark, I can only imagine hitting my self!!!:eek:

Likely to be a bit more testing later in the week before taking it outside but this close to chistmas I guess it will be all about building the kids stuff now for christmas etc.

Is there anything here that stands out as being silly? I'm looking for a 'starter kit' that I can build - am concerned that if I pick parts myself, I'll miss out something obvious... like the flight controller!

from a quick read - you'll need soldering iron/solder - still also needs receiver and transmitter combo, battery charger, some bits and bobs of wiring/bullet connectors, XT60 connectors etc. At least one more battery.

Some of that stuff is shown in the pictures - but not mentioned in the description. Hard to tell.
