Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

I just did a charge at 1.5C and that made a nice difference, I'll probably do the odd 2C charge but I can't really go much beyond that anyway.

Think X-Quad seems to be the most beginner from everything I read. Simple to make as it's 4 identical arms in a cross, the electronics are the same for each side. Plus you don't need to spend time making sure it's well balanced like you might do on a Tri or similar, plus you don't need servos.

From what I've seen most pre-built tri frames are quite expensive due to the servo assembly, I'd be worried about breaking them. I've already broken 3 arms on my quad but as they work out around £1.50 an arm I'm not too bothered - not sure I'd be throwing a tri around so much by this point if the frame was £20-30!

If you look at RCExplorer he has examples of a homebuilt Tri, it's dirt cheap to make, and the Yaw mech is also cheap + easy to make assuming you have some basic tools :)

If you look at the end of the last page, you can see my "fun" tricopter uses the same mech, I can get better pictures if need be, but in all honesty it's really straight forward.

I rarely fly my quads this Tricopter has become my favourite by far,it seems to glide across the sky, love the thing

Tri Friend, I've seen yours on RCGroups, looks damn lovely! Do you have any more pictures? I'm interested as to what the green box is at the back!

How do you find OrangeRX? Last time I used a clone I had severe consequences, so now I fly legit Spektrum WITH satellite regardless now :)

I just need an OSD to finish off my build, but may hold off for now as it's not really required. What batteries do you use? I have a load of 3s 2200mah, but recently also got a 4400 3s for proper fpv (adds about 50-60% extra flight time).

Thanks,

That green box is just a sponge sanding block,it gives the tri a bit of extra height so that the brushless gimbal can fit underneath.

Its attached to a piece of thin plywood which the landing legs are screwed into,i will eventually paint it black.

I have the orangerx in all my builds, never had any problems at all with them so far.

Im using 5000 mah 4s batteries,she flies like a rocket,flight time = 10 mins.

Right well I can't see no pictures in any OcUK threads due to proxy issues at work so shall look at all these goodies later.

Have had a quick read of the tricopter projects on RCexplorer - wow, superb builds in all fairness.. hobbyking here we come!

Really liking the look of these. Loving the one above! How easy are these to build for a full on beginner?

I started off by building various quads small and large and allways thought a tricopter was going to be a difficult build due to the servo tail and configuration of the flight control.

But in the end it was just as easy to build and config as any quad i'd built before.

Definitely interested with that price! :D

For the price these things are amazing,i would highly recommened anyone wanting to try fpv out to build these first before they go spending £250+ on a set of fatsharks.

They are made using some black epp a fresnel lens and a 3.5" car monitor.

You can buy the basic housing here:

There is also a video tutorial on how to build them and what monitor to buy:

Sorry about the fingers in the picture, just getting the hang of this new phone lol

pazza,

Does it work well when wearing glasses too? Loving the look of that!

Some guy on the quadcopter forum hot glued a ski mask to the front of it which allowed him to wear glasses, not sure how comfortable that is mind.

For the price you really cant go wrong either for a passenger pair or for just trying out fpv for the first time.

Thanks for the goggle link - might have to try that when I start biting the bullet with fpv. I was initially thinking of just using a screen attached to the controller, this wouldn't significantly involve any extra parts which would be great.

Finally found the balls to flash the KK2.0 :) Bit of a fiddle getting all the software installed but chucked on the same 1.6 build that Doofer is using (in his screenshot - 1.6++ something)

Throttle response seems sharper! Seems a bit more predictable too which is nice. Also means I'm more confident and flying quicker with more stick scaling! Nice to finally have some auto level for the times I feel I want to use it. I like how I can have it on a 3 way switch, so I'll be setting that up at some point I think just for the sake of it :p

Finding the voltage log interesting, seems the voltage drop at full throttle on this quad is a lot more than I'd have expected. Is dropping below 10.5v on full throttle once it's partially drained necessarily a bad thing providing the idle voltage remains above that? If it is I've got problems :s I logged 10v at one point under full throttle with an idle of 11v.

Sold! Ordered the bits. Will make it when they arrive.
+1, I've been on the verge for a while but this thread was the final poke I needed.

It's getting a bit late in the year and the cold and rain are creeping in but an OcUK multrotor meet would be good at some point, even if it's in the spring.

I've been thinking that also. Definitely need one next year, planning on English weather in the summer is bad enough, let alone running towards winter. Looks like most people posting here are in the south too which is great! I hate going up past Brum due to the M6 traffic!
