Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Friend plugs his fat sharks straight into iPad/transmitter (can't remember which)

Ooooooh hoping to get my arduino nano this week, then I can flash my esc's :D

I read that earlier today, Hopefully interest will pick up.

Some goodies arrived today :)

I thought before spending lots and building something, I should give it a try first.
so got a cheap hubsan x4 h107d, just got to wait for the battery to charge. and then probably break it first try.

Can't be as bad as me with my first hubsan, Had it 5 minutes in the house so I decided to go in the garden. 30 seconds later it was up over the house never to be seen again lol.

It's always a good idea to start small as they can get expensive and pretty dangerous if you don't know what your doing.

There's another FPV race meeting arranged in the Wolverhampton / Shropshire area. October 16th, 12pm till 4.30pm. £5 to cover the cost of using the field.

anyone got any good calibration guides for it? its flying backwards, reset the trims to zero and calibrated the gyros. I do notice 1 of the three propeller's comes on a fair bit latter.

Yeah, I got it on Friday, I was driving to the Lakes on the evening and took it with me however I bottled taking it out! I got home this evening and after watching numerous videos on the P3's I finally took off with it (took 10 mins to work out the whole press then press again to turn it on!)

I had it in beginner mode and I must admit I was pretty scared flying it! No idea why really, just kept expecting it to fall out of the sky :D

It's my first drone, I'll muster up courage to take it out of my own backyard tomorrow and higher than 30m :)

I took some vids of the village, the pictures were ok, I must admit I expected better quality after seeing pics on here but I imagine I will need to play with the settings some more.

What do people use to edit footage? Nothing too complex please.

The more flights you get under your belt the more relaxed you will become when flying it. But I know what you mean, I still get butterflies in my stomach when I go above 300-400ft or fly over water. ;)

Top tip - be sure you know how to flip to ATTI mode quickly, if it starts acting up or flying in a weird way and you panic, flick it to ATTI mode and you can gain complete control of it usually. Means you need to fly it manually for a bit but at least if you get into a 'fly away' situation you can regain control easily. The S1 (right hand) switch on the TX controls flight modes. Top is P-GPS mode, middle is P-ATTI and bottom is F Mode (Follow Me, FAP, Waypoints etc). Flick it to the middle for ATTI. It'll still hold altitude in ATTI but it will drift a wee bit as its not locked to any GPS Sats. S2 left hand switch will if flicked from top to bottom and back up again a few times, initiate a return to home - also handy to know. And make sure you set your RTH altitude high enough in the DJI Go app to save it flying into a tree on its journey back to you.

Another top tip - pick up a second battery if you haven't got one. Your skill levels will increase in proportion to the amount of flight hours you gain, better to have two or three batteries so you can get as much flight hours in as possible. I've got 2 batteries at the moment and have just ordered a third.

As far as editing video footage goes, there are lots of choices and opinions. I'm currently using Sony Vegas Pro 13.0 64-Bit but its got a steep learning curve. Previous to that I was using Davinci Resolve which is a free editing program and absolutely superb, but again its a bit of a tricky one to get your head around. The easiest and most feature rich editor I've used so far is Wondershare Filmora:- http://filmora.wondershare.com/

Brilliant program, really easy to use and produces good results at 1080p. And its completely free! :D Only drawback is that it wont do 2.7k or 4k output but then that's pretty academic anyway if you are uploading to Youtube or Vimeo to show off yer videos. :)

Another tip I was told about, when using batteries for the first time is to run them in.

Charge them fully, then fly until they are 50% then land. Do this for the first 10 flights and then fly normal. These 'gentle flights' will also give you experience with the sticks.

Im sure I read somewhere you look at PhantomPilots forum, if not have a look and you will find loads of info on there.

Yeah, I read that somewhere too and did carry this out for my first dozen or so flights.

I'm not sure it makes a huge degree of difference m8. I did carry out this procedure with the original Intelligent Flight Battery that came with the bird but the spare one I bought recently I didn't bother with doing it.

I know a lot of the procedures are probably not needed, but when you have £1k of equipment in the air I want to make sure it stays up there ;)

What voltages is everyone landing at im using 16000 mah 4s multistar batterys on a hex and usually landing at 3.7 volt per cell when under load but after its rested it shoots up to around 3.93 per cell
