Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

It would need to constantly change height to record someone skiing. I'll check out some videos if I can find any. Ta

that's what I mean its in one of the posted videos. it will stay a certain height above the ground, regardless of slope whilst following you.

The Mavic does look superb. But I'd hold off from being an early adopter just now until more reviews surface. Only thing I'm a bit miffed about is having to use a phone rather than a tablet to run the app. But then again, the slant with the Mavic seems to be portability so it's not surprising. Flight time looks impressive, it's lighter than a Phantom so it's to be expected, wonder how it will cope with wind gusts in comparison?

Well, the motor is stating a 35A usage on a 4S... So I imagine 40A might not be such a bad idea.

If you have the spare cash mate. Otherwise 2204's at 2300kv on a 4S battery is reasonably nippy.

You just need to put a cap on it otherwise you'll end up getting more and more stuff :p

Also forgot, Lipo bag or ammo box might be worth obtaining.

It says on DJi website that its isnt as good in winds as the phantom which is to be expected.

Taking my P3A to Ukraine on Friday for 4 days in Pripyat and the surrounding area. I've not had nearly enough practice with it as I'd hoped but its not the hardest thing in the world to fly so should be OK.

Batteries are all discharged, contacts taped, wrapped in cellophane and in little snap bags all 3 held nice and snug in a Lipo bag.

Pretty sure I'll not have an issue with security at the airport. Bit worried the Ukrainians will have a fit and either take it off me, lock me up or both.

So now that both the GoPro karma and dji mavic are soon out, looks like I may plump for either one. I like the GoPro but features wise the mavic looks a better bet??

Will have to wait for a few reviews before deciding on what one to get.

I almost forgot to say....

SPARE ARMS! You will need some! :D

I know my Eachine falcon 250 frame fits standard ZMR 250 arms, so as for size it might be worth looking up some zmr 250 arms and getting the dimensions.

The esc should fit (assuming it's not crazily long) but depending on its width it might 'overhang' on the arms.

No no. I've read about people discharging Lipos and have tried to explain to folk not to but not many listened.

I race RC cars so have plenty of experience of Lipo batteries.

Good man :D

Oh Agnes, it also looks like that's coming from the international warehouse? Are you aware of that?

Edit: same for esc's?

Yea, most of it is coming from international warehouse, it's cheaper than buying all the parts from random places.

As for the ESC's, they are 60mm long!!! So pretty long. I think the caps at the ends will have to sit inside the body.

You suggested 2205's, any reason why? The ampage draw is insanely high.

EDIT: Looking around, the ESC's I want simply won't fit :(

EDIT 2: Gone for the DYS MR2205 2300KV running tri blade 5x4, now I can go for a smaller 20A ESC which will fit. And works out cheaper too!

Only said 2205s as they're an upgrade from 2204s and saves you upgrading so early down the line, if you want 2204s to save some dollar then it should be fine.

Cant see an issue running 4s, I've got 20A esc's and 2204-2300kv motors and run 4s

Defo get spare props mate. You'll soon go through them.

Oh, make a build log or take pics, be interesting to see :)

Will certainly make a build log, it will be my first quad and I'm a perfectionist haha.

Cool, ordered all the bits :) Finally lol

Look forward to it!

Hoping in the new year to build a nice acrobatic type quad that's a bit more indestructible.

I'd love one of these:

I was waiting for the Karma, and it looks good, but the Mavic suits my needs much better in terms of its size and follow me features, and it's available sooner.

Quick question as am very tempted: Is the Phantom 4 worth it?

If I had around £1,000 to spend, can anything really match up to it? Flight time, quality, features, 4k, control etc?

Well since the Mavic is cheaper, smaller, lighter, same camera and video capabilities, same flight time, just 5mph slower, same range (7 miles) I cant see any point anybody would buy the phantom 4. In fact because the camera is mounted in a protective bubble and is forward then in some ways its better as you wont get the props in the videos when flying fast and the camera is more protected from crashes.

The only thing the phantom 4 gives you is the ability to fly in higher winds over the Mavic and a dedicated controller which you can mount an large screen ipad to it.
