Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Thanks, giving it some consideration along with the, Dji Mavic, the typhoon seems safer in a fashion but the Mavic is appealing due to portability.

I got an el'cheapo drone for Christmas (Dromida Vista FPV). My first experience with one and was really enjoying just learning the controls etc but I think the FC has gone :(

It just flips everytime I apply throttle. I've recalibrated, checked motor and prop direction but still the same. The reason I think it's FC is the direction it flips in seems random after each calibration and all the props seem to rotate at different, fluctuating speeds.

I've wrote to both the retailer and UK distributor hoping they will send out a replacement board, so fingers crossed.

If they don't play ball I might look for something more capable. I see the DJI Phantom comes recommended in the ~£450 price range but I'm a bit reluctant to fly something that weighs 1.2Kg incase I kill someone. Anything lighter worth having?

Guys, our little lad is rather annoyed. The wee JJRC H20 nanocopter I bought for him for Xmas has started playing up. It was working fine this morning but we took it to the park this afternoon with freshly charged batteries and when I switched it on, binded it to the Tx and started the motors, two of them refused to turn. No idea why, it was fine earlier and hadn't been crashed or anything. When you try and turn the props on the two offending motors they hardly move and seem very stiff.

Any ideas? Little guy was so disappointed at the park that he couldn't fly. :(

After some more playing I've come to the conclusion the problem with my Dromida is the gyroscope. It seems to want to constantly right itself even when it's perfectly flat. If I tilt it with the motors turning different motors spin up faster and slow down/stop.

Not sure it's fixable so it requires a replacement FC, hopefully they honor some sort of warranty as it should last longer than two days surely?!

"Cool aerial videos etc"...

You'll use it a dozen times, probably illegally, before letting it collect dust.

To be fair to this response, THIS is the only reason I haven't 'invested' in a drone yet. I kind of know deep down I'll use it a few times and then let it sit in storage....:(

Maybe just maybe the Mavic is the perfect drone for me :D

Went out today and braved the cold to grab a few pictures, Here's one of them.

A river of fog.

Hi. I've seen a drone I'm interested in buying but I'm just after the opinions of you wise guys and girls on here :)

The drone I've seen is on Gearbest website. The question is, has anyone had experience with this company and would you buy through them? The reviews about the company are a bit hit and miss. Most people seem to complain about the time it takes to get their item. I understand I would have to wait quite some time for it to arrive which I'm fine with, it is showing in stock at their EU warehouse currently.

If I was to buy through them I would use Paypal (debit card) or should I use Paypal (credit card) for "extra protection"? Either way I would use Paypal.

Thanks very much :)

I have bought from Gearbest plenty of equipment for my quad. My last purchase was a £80.00 camera and have never had a single bother with the company. My waterproof case with the camera I accidentally broke the latch and they sent out a new one without hassles. But coming from China be prepared to wait 2-3 weeks. On occasions I have had some goods arrive in a week. I also use Bangood which is pretty much the same.

Similar experience here. I've bought numerous things from Gearbest, Banggood and AliExpress. Never had any issues with them although it does take a few weeks to arrive generally. Banggood usually have some half decent new year sale offers on so I'm keeping my eye on them as I fancy an FPV racer to play with this year.

Thanks for info. I think I might go for it, just nervous as I've never bought like this before :) But their is lot's of Youtube videos of people in the UK that bought drones through them without trouble.

Would you chose China warehouse or EU warehouse? It's in stock at both but is £15 more at EU warehouse. I don't mind paying the extra if theirs a benefit to doing so.

Took the Mavic out this morning to help a photographer mate doing a staged photoshoot to create a promotional video for his business. The level of control you can have over the drone and camera still really impresses me, although I almost crashed when activating cinema mode - it really does become lazy and less responsive - not ideal for flying in a forest!

However, I did encounter my first problem. The temperature was around freezing, and although I'd pre-warmed all the batteries I kept getting battery temperature warnings. No issue though - it continued to fly just fine. The iPhone was another matter however and couldn't survive in those temperatures. It just kept shutting down, and even heating it back up only got another 5 minutes out of it before it died again. If I fly in cold temperatures like this again I think I'm going to have to stick a hand warmer to the phone to keep it going.

Well took the plunge and ordered a drone and spare battery through Gearbest.

Order both at 00.55 this morning. Battery coming from CN warehouse and drone from EU warehouse. Both showing shipped within a couple of hours and had a text off DPD at 7am this morning saying the drone will be delivered tomorrow. So far, very impressed.

Help me everyone.

I got a small 15 quid micro quad for Christmas and loved it. However the corner motor died after what I suspect was a crash indoors... And now it won't fly.

However I want to basically get something for around the 50-80 quid mark to mess with.

What's the best value for money option.

What drone I'd you order out of curiousity?

Went for the Hubsan X4 H501S Advanced version in the end. Been looking at reviews for a while and most seem to say it's decent as a step into GPS, and I like the look/size of it.

Not long been on the quad scene but wanted something with GPS, RTH and FPV. Really would like a Mavic Pro, but thought it best be safe not to spend in the 1K region for my first "more expensive" quad.
