Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

I think it's the same with a lot of consumer electronics - companies keep supply low initially to keep the prices elevated, prices drop over time.

Also, it seems a lot of them suck at demand planning.

I noticed going past a TV into work today there was a headline on BBC news "new drone laws" and a picture of an Inspire...I can't see anything on BBC however...

Discussing it all over the news today so something must be going on but don't think its been decided yet exactly what.

Perhaps its up for discussion in Parliament today?

Most pundits are saying new law will mean every drone has to be registered and traceable and all operators, even amateurs/hobbeists will need to have passed a flying test (just a basic one that shows they can control and fly it and are aware of the rules)

This likely new law was the main reason i sold my drone before the bottom perhaps fell out of the market. eg unless a drone has built in unique electronic serial number which can be accessed by the police then it might become illegal to fly it under the new rules. Hence second hand value will be limited.

Ill buy a new drone when the dust has settled.

Folks,

I want to build a drone :) I've no idea where to start though...

Anywhere I can go for advice?

Thanks :)

In addition to the post above:

1. Don't be intimidated. It's not difficult.
2. Learn to solder, and use leaded solder not that lead free garbage.
3. Read and watch lots of videos on Youtube from the likes of Joshua Bardwell and rcmodelreviews
4. Buy the best parts you can afford, whatever your budget may be.

Cancelled my Mavic preorder as I got an update saying delivery would be Feb/March (ordered early Nov) then spotted a brand new one on eBay that wasn't massively marked up and had only been listed for 2 minutes. Jumped on it yesterday and it arrived just now, Christmas has come early!

Feel a bit sorry for the guy as he hadn't twigged the eBay/PP charges would be so much so he didn't even make a profit unlike most of the ones being sold.
