Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

There's no way that's 250 feet. I've got a good eye for heights and that was at least 800 feet if not closer to 1000 in the middle of the video.

I'm not trying to be kill joy, but if you folks want to be able to continue with this hobby you need to start flying within the rules. The number of incidents being reported is increasing and it's only a matter of time before the rules are tightened even more.

After a few weeks now with the Mavic Pro I realise that I absolutely made the right decision to buy one.
It's so fast and easy to deploy compared to my Inspire and the image quality is not a million miles away. Yes, it's low light performance and dynamic range isn't there compared to the X5 but it's comparable to the X3. However for the type of photography I do it's good enough.
Very happy with it indeed.

but I'm only 250 max.
I fly article 266 when I get the itch, so 1000

Not getting into the height of that particular flight, but I am interested in the ANO 266 general exception.
Do you think that the 'competent observer' really has to be able to see the quad or do you read it that they are more to keep an eye out for other air traffic in the area and notify the pilot of the potential danger?

Just wondering as I don't think I'd be able to see my 5" quad unaided at 500 ft let alone 1000.

From the Order Itself:

This does not remove the requirement (in paragraph 3(b)) for the competent observer to maintain direct unaided visual contact with the SUA throughout the flight. Therefore, the SUA can only be flown up to 1,000 ft if it can still be seen sufficiently for collision avoidance purposes.

Also keep in mind that this exemption only covers Class G airspace. Be mindful of what class of airspace you are flying in.

Just ordered a mavic air fly more combo, hopefully arrive on Wednesday, went for the red one as it was on offer for a shade over £800 which didn't seem bad :)

Nice dude. I'm picking mine up tomorrow, got the standard package for just under £500 :)

Wowsers thats a cracking price, i'm presuming thats bought from overseas? cheapest I could find the combo was about £750 but that would take a while to arrive and I thought for the sake of £50 it was worth buying a UK one (not that theres any difference other than power cable)
