Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Gifted a Mini 3 for my 40th. Finally had a chance to quickly test drive last night. It was a touch windy and dark, eventually took off but the wind started edging it towards my fence, my wife gripping me thinking she was going to get cut and me desperately trying to get it to land before it hit the fence.

Think I'll wait until the weekend and go to the park nearby. Do DJI users here get DJI Care?

Yeah, first flight was definitely a blip. Had another go - it's fricking awesome. I was still quite tame with it but much better at controlling it, the video quality is excellent. As a keen photographer, this gives me lots of options.

Took the 2 year insurance out. £85 for 2 years didn't seem too bad.

I bought a mini 4 Pro some days ago :D

Supposed to be 50mph gusts for the next few days so seemed the last chance to fly it.

Really boring and pointless video, almost hit a lamp post right at 0:19 seconds after take off :D
I bought 1 year DJI care though so...
realised I was filming myself at 2:56 :o
I seem to have pressed to stop recording by accident early on :/

Strobes surprisingly visible even from the ground

I remembered with my PSU came 2 canvas bags, one with a pull string for the cables and the PSU in the other
perfect sizes for the drone and the remote

BTW the black/white patches added on the camera view, is that the over exposure warning highlighting parts of the image?

I remember once, I forgot about some nearby pylons and by pure chance I ended up flying between the wires. I only realised when I saw some black lines suddenly growing on my screen and disappearing, before looking up and seeing the pylons. :o

The weather hasn't exactly been great for flying. It's either been too dark, wet or windy at this time month for me to fly. :(

How are those that bought the Neo getting on with it.

I've got my finger hovering over buy it now and think it would be a good addition to the Phantom and Mini 2se.

Recently bought one for £109 after buying a new mini 4 pro with rc2 on offer for around £550, used the RC2 with both and actually enjoy the neo, at the price point i'm not even bothered if it flies away or crashes etc :) I was pleasantly surprised with with the video quality obviously its not going to be as good as the 4. Off to the lakes for new year and going to go on a few rides on the m/b so going to try the neo on full auto mode (weather permitting)

Bought tonight after watching a few reviews and knowing I would not be that upset if it went 'Back of Beyond' for that price.
Got mostly for the trails on the MTB and when we visit some area's during our little breaks, with it being idea as a palm to launch, without any fuss.

just turned mine on after reading this and it was speaking in chinese........ quick youtube and sorted, apparantly something to do with paring to remote after latest update

I have the Mavic 2 Pro and haven’t used it much this past two years simply due to the hassle of connecting my phone to the controller. Too much messing about. I like the all in one controller you get now which would make life a lot easier when you want to fly it.

What all in one controller is compatible with the Mavic 2 or can recommend?

Drone racing looks wild.

It looks abit like a real life wipeout.

Um, you realise that the youtube link is literally a video game right? Sure this stuff is available in real life but don't be fooled into thinking that the video you linked is in any way real.

So glad I took mine to South Africa, whay a beautiful place to fly/film. Two of the three vineyards we visited were fine with me using it. Only crashed it once into a tree when filming the bride and groom at the wedding but it survived. However I still haven't taken it to a big field where I can let loose and learn how to fly properly but hopefully rectifying that this afternoon.

I think your only option would be to try and source a second hand older "DJI Smart Remote Controller" for your drone as the newer ones are all tailored towards the Mavic 3 and onwards it seems!

I think a colleague at work had one for his Mavic 2 and it was good but had more limitations than their newer smart controllers although can't remember what exactly they were!

Worth looking out some old reviews of that initial smart controller to see what was said about it back then.

I had a DJI inspire, t'was a great bit of kit but what a faff to get it setup and find a friend to control the camera, ultimately I flogged it and lost a large chunk fo change with about 20 hours flying time under my belt :-p

Fast-forward to Saturday my dji neo got delivered. Now, I've almost doubled my drone flying time in just two days! how much fun, simple to use and instant the thing is! amazing, Sure I don't have ultra uber 8k footage etc.. but for my family and I it's just epic, and if it breaks, flies away or I get bored it's pennies on the pound!

If you were on the fence about the neo, just buy it, so good (and curry's have £50 off right now using code NEO50)

Will check out the Neo.

I agree it’s a faff not having a built in controller. Even with a phone dedicated to drone usage that’s kept in the drone case it’s a drawback. I guess I’m just lazy really.
