Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

I hope your rig is equipped with napalm, russinating :D

Being serious though - are drones equipped with things like grenades / napalm / other weapons and used in war?

I imagine a medium sized drone flown in FPV carrying a grenade would be very handy to fly over a group of enemies that are not too far away.

Hardly a stealth strike but better than getting shot at

My Blade Nano QX arrived today, had a quick flight and did pretty well, nice and stable. I've ordered 4 x Turnigy 160mAh 1S batteries, just need a charger now that can charge more than 1 battery at a time. The stock charger is just a little USB plug in thing. Any recommendations for something better? The batteries are the same as the Blade MSRX and other little heli's.

Thanks

Drones are, yes. Multi rotors, I don't think so. For example, on my first time clay pigeon shooting, after a bit of a warm up, I shot 15/20 targets. Clay pigeons are quite small, quite fast and quite quiet. A quadcopter capable of carrying a meaningful weapon would be fairly big, fairly slow and fairly noisy

Shotgun > Grenade Quad :D

Still got problems with my quad. The problems that i am having are that

1. Ive got a problem with the quad yawing.
2. Cant keep a stable hover, keep having to adjust the throttle a lot.

So far ive tried the following
1. Change the props
2. Put the SimonK firmware on the ESC
3. Recalibrated the ESC, one by one and via the KK board
4. Tried different firmware on the kk board
5. Tried different receiver.
6. Reseated all the servo wires.
7. Stated playing with the self level settings

Anything else i can try ??

1. Sorry, not sure if you've mentioned the yawing problem here before, what is it doing?
2. Yeah, that's pretty normal, you should be contantly adjusting the throttle, just something you'll have to learn I'm afraid. I was bouncing off the floor quite a bit learning on my KK2, stick at it and you'll be a great pilot :) If you're really struggling maybe try a curve or some expo on your throttle channel.

How does the quad look in the air ignoring the yaw/levelling. Does it look smooth or like it is trying to compensate all the time? If the latter you might have gains too high which could cause it to generally fly badly.
Any significant vibration that you can see? This can also screw with things.

Does the quad yaw constantly? If so can you check receiver settings on the KK to confirm it's at zero?
You'll find hovering level is possible with control but the nearer to the ground you are the harder it is, as the downdraft will upset the balance.

When in the air there it does seem stable with a very slight oscillation. Ive turned the gains for self level to half the default. No vibrations that i am aware of as ive tried holding it with and without props and cant feel any. When in the air the quad is yawing slowly and have to keep correcting. The receiver is fine, everything reads 0.

Would cutting the shaft on the motor down so that the prop is closer to the motor as at the moment there is a gap of about 7.5mm help in anyway ?

The throttle im adjusting is about 1/4 of the stick to keep a level flight if left at say just over 1/2 thottle its boucing off the floor and yawing CW all the time

I'll second vibrations. Dropping down an inch to smaller props can also help stability, as they spin up faster and carry less momentum

Dose anyone know of a place where you can buy fibreglass sheets, im looking to do some modding to my HK Y650 Scorpion. I really don't like the way that the stock parts are all predrilled/milled, and leaves barely anything to bolt parts onto.

I've all-ready replaced the stock landing gear with carbonfibre rodded legs off the Hobbyking H.A.L as the stock ones keep d breaking on normal landing.

Only just noticed this thread:D

I used to use Electric and nitro cars, boats in the 90's but now decided to get into fpv quads ;) I was thinking of buying a TBS Discovery but was wondering what parts to get or even just getting a DJI phantom but worried about all the flyaways

If i bought a TBS disco I was considering these parts from various uk suppliers and Hobbyking :

DJI ,Tiger or Sunny sky motors ?
DJI Esc 30a Or Simon k ops
Turnigy 4S 4000mah or 4S 4500mah or 3300 mAh 3S
9.5 graupners props
Naza lite with GPS
Turnigy 9xr with orange RX And module.

What do you reckon

I wouldn't worry about the flyaways... They are caused by pilot error, flying near rf sources, lack of calibration etc etc

Latest firmwares stop all the flyaway stuff by ignoring duff signals, but pilots can still suck :-)

Perfect Sunday morning for a bit of flying. Did a couple of lipos just cruising about. Decided to burn the last one up as fast as possible with some high/low fast banked turns. Ended up getting into orientation diffs hit and fence full on. Fence was fine :D
