Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

If i bought a TBS disco I was considering these parts from various uk suppliers and Hobbyking :

DJI ,Tiger or Sunny sky motors ?
DJI Esc 30a Or Simon k ops
Turnigy 4S 4000mah or 4S 4500mah or 3300 mAh 3S
9.5 graupners props
Naza lite with GPS
Turnigy 9xr with orange RX And module.

What do you reckon

I have Sunnysky motors, they're great and seem to be everyone's favourite right now.
ESCs go for anything that can be flashed with or comes with SimonK firmware. SimonK>*
Batteries I use the Zippy compact 4000 4S on my Disco and they give a good balance between duration and keeping the quad light.
Instead of Orange DSM2/DSMX I'd get a FrSky module instead, widely regarded the best module/protocol upgrade for any radio.
Flight controller - I wouldn't get a Naza but that's personal choice, they aren't bad, I just prefer the APM. Also, if the latest news regarding Colin Guinn is to be believed then DJI are a rather unsavoury company who I wouldn't want to give my money.

Good luck :)

Where's the best place to order Sunnysky motors from the UK? I seem to struggling finding them on non US/HK/China sites and I don't really want to order some from Ebay without some re-assurance they'll be genuine :p

Not sure where in the UK, I just went with some on ebay, although not in the UK this place is known to sell the genuine article, free postage too.

I'd probably get them from there if I order some more as it works out less than £40 for four inc. postage.

Ah had forgotten Banggood might sell them. Think I'll have to grab myself a set :)
Although think I'll probably go with some 1250kVs or similar.

Thanks col m I agree on the Colin guinn their attitude is very unsavoury !

+1 for bang good ;) Great service and reliable ..nothing like a good bang :D

Still undecided between the tbs disco or phantom , with GPS assist surely they both fly very similar and are stable but in manual I guess the disco would be a different fish ?

Yeah, what is this? I've read a few things like that the last week or so, but have not seen a proper story.

Got any links?

There's a few articles kicking around the net.
Short version: DJI employs Colin G to set up US arm. Colin G owns US subsidiary of DJI and sets up dealer network and relationships.
DJI gets big and decides that it doesn't need Colin G any more so fires him, then takes all the dealer business direct. Colin G sues them. Judge agrees with Colin G and grants injunction against DJI.

Just had a brown pants time. Took the Phantom over the field and took her up to around 120 feet. Then suddenly noticed 'return to home' on the display. And luckily she did....phew! Was a bit worried it wouldnt do it and fly away. Im not sure though why it did it. The antenna and wifi extender were pointing at it

Anyway, managed to get this while it was up there.

Antenna on TX shouldn't be pointed directly at the craft. Weirdly, that's where the signal is weakest.

Thanks gandhi. So is it best to have the antenna at 90 or 45 degrees?? Like I said above, Im still learning :o:)
It depends on the orientation of your Rx antenna(s), ideally you want Tx and Rx antennas on the same axis.
i.e. if your Rx antenna is vertical then you want your Tx antenna vertical too, if your Rx antenna is horizonatal you want your Tx antenna horizonatal.
