Finally finished my first quad build! Provided the weather is decent I will fly it this weekend

I have managed to keep it relatively tidy thanks to the 4-in-1 ESC but I really hate the current placement of the GPS
Im using a Naze32 flight controller with a D8R-XP receiver and Taranis transmitter
Got a couple of 2200mAh 4S batteries but I have no idea how long they will last
I also have fitted a sonar sensor so I'm keen to see how that works in practice.

Ah yes. The sort of thing the Inspire 1 has so it knows to lower the arms when close to the ground?

How would you use it on a quad without retractable landing gear? Can you set it to stop you hitting the ground by accident?
 
Anyone got any spare 10mm female to female spacers with M3 thread (nylon), and M3 nylon screws to go with it? seems that most people only stock the white, and some of the parts are out of stock, or they charge an extra £4 for postage, for some screws!

Loads on EBay but in the US, or China

Why are these out of stock everywhere

Its far more accurate than a barometer for altitude hold less than about 3m
Just means you can fly it low to the ground without worrying about throttle.
At 90p for the sensor I figured it was with a try

Hobby King have them in stock at their UK warehouse at £0.94 postage

If you need a different colour just wrap them in electrical tape?

Yeah, about 6 feet is the effective range I think. It can work quite well from what I've seen.

It's like an alt hold function but maintains the alt relative to ground level, if that makes any sense? Almost like a terrain following radar. However, like all things on the naze32, it will work but will need a fair bit of tweaking to get it to work properly!

Sadly not, sorry. I don't use them any more for my naze32 based craft. I tend to use the sticky foam backed pads as they soak up some of the vibrations from the frame/motors/props.

Iv purchased those, its the screws im after, everywhere seems to either be out of stock, or charging £4 for the screws, and £4 for postage, £8 for some screws!

Also got one of the pads from hobbyking

Need to find a FrSky D8R-II PLUS 2.4Ghz 8CH Receiver with Telemetery today too, although hobbyking dont have them in stock, other places do but comes to around £21, for that price I could get an X8R

You don't have to use plastic screws. It's just best practice really. Some boards have live 5 or 3.3v pads near the screw holes but I have used standard M3 screws before on the naze and it's been fine.

Also, you'd be better off with the d4rII rx. The D8R is well oversized/overweight for a 250 sized quad where weight is everything and space is at a premium.

Finally, if you can't get the ESC's between the bottom 2 plates then they need to go on the arms really.

This wouldnt give me any room for additional channels?

Can you expand the channels on D4RII rx?

If there is a way of getting more channels out the D4R I will get this. However the price comes in around the same as the 8 channel near enough, hobbyking again out of stock.

The ESCS will not go in between the two bottom plates, Im either thinking of mounting them inside the main body, or on the arms

Clicked buy on the d4rII rx for £21 inc shipping, under the pretenses it can offer 4 channel (PWM) or 8 channel (CPPM) - Aslong as I have some room for more channels


Got it from unmannedtech in the UK, only place I could see it as a reasonable price, or not out of stock

You won't need more than 6 channels for a 250 quad. 4 for usual stuff and one for the flight modes. Anything else is just extra weight :D

CPPM is the way to go too, only 3 wires so less weight, less things to break etc.

I've been using an "Ansmann Racing xMove2.0 Ultimate 12v Lipo Battery Charger" for my lipos but I don't have that many (yet) and can live with charging one at a time @ 10A.

Had to get a PSU for it but even that's just a 200W dual output 15A job - Fusion PS200T.
 
I really need to get a decent charger. The imaxB6 is fine for charging my 1.5a batteries for the miniH but it struggles with the larger ones a bit. Especially if I try and parallel charge ahahahahaha.

Also, I had to discharge my 3.3ah ones I use for my hexa as I'm not gonna get to fly for a week or so and couldn't use them all at the weekend. Yeah, that took a while. 13.2ah worth of batteries discharging at a rate of 0.5 amps/4.
 
Just did a hover test. Held at 3m

Stock props with E300 system
1x Turnigy 5000mAh 4S 20C Lipo full charged reporting 16.80v on 2 multi meters
Naza V2
Landed when lipos buzzer went off @ 3.7v

I'm still new to flying this. Dan is not allowed to say how long but how long did she hover for...?

Only thing I would suggest is that you may want to just make sure that you have the room to move things around in the future should you want gps or what not. Looks cool though.

May not go GPS on this one, I have GPS on my dji 450, maybe if i find a cheap one.but that sort of stuff can be mounted somewhere.

The escs are either going to go on top or below the arms, or where they are now.

Only thing is the front escs could obstruct a camera bay.


I need to get some different leg for these.
