Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Ah that would explain the different looking motors

Many thanks

I am not sure if im going to change back to the white legs on mine, I dont really want to, as flying FPV it would be better having the skids on there, I dont know if it was becasue the last few times out there seemed to be a lot of head wind up higher, but it felt so sluggish in the air. Might just be me and it was windy.

What radio? and what weight/expo settings?

From their PDF I followed it all, and it was pretty much uncontrollable with a brand new model and the rates they mentioned. Had to adjust and input my own weight/expo settings its controllable now but something still doesnt feel 100%, still drifts off now and again even after trimming, and a little sensitve

How are you connecting it up to the PC? I had it plugged in to mic jack, and smartproplus running so it allows it to be used through the headphone jack, but also have a selectable usb dongle for sim's.

All on a taranis

Im hoping all the chatter is true about it being the start, there is a lot of potential, and hopefully it will become something great

Using a Taranis 9XD Plus and connecting it with the mini usb on the back to a usb port (no dongle).

Just followed the PDF from the site so all weight and offset at 50 and then I also changed external and internal RF to off and trainer port mode to slave.

Once the game loads bind each channel making sure the rest including throttle are at the mid point.

This took me a few attempts on the island map but managed it eventually. (17 seconds in)

Weird I though the mini USB was for updating the firmware only? Iv tried it with the mic part and my audio lead. Also tried my sim dongle with the lead

According to the forums everyone seems to be having different settings and weights, nothing is consistent

Will give it another go when I have a spare 5

Even on Phoenix RC I just use the miniusb on the back never had an issue.

I'm assuming you have a dongle for phoenix? You have to have one connected for phoenix to work, I have a selectable USB dongle

The taranis plus I have doesn't even power on fully with the USB in its for use with companion, I connect it to the trainer port then in to USB dongle

EDIT: Managed to use the mini usb, but even still with the values its all over the place. , as I said everyone seems to be having different values to get theirs working but even then it still is not fully ok, what might work for someone doesnt work for many others,

Seems the only way to get it to work is spend a few hours tweaking it until it feels right

Might just wait until newer releases come out.

Strange, guess I was just lucky then.

As for Phoenix I have the dongle but I don't use it, just power on the taranis first then plug it in through the mini usb.

Having a quick play on the way home from work..! I'm pretty happy with the camera despite being skeptical to start.

The thing is with quads the feel is very personal. what ash finds 'normal' and what I do will feel very different, going by the stock setting I can tell you I prefer a much twitchier quad with the way mine is set up.

You havnt realy flown much acro so I doubt you have done any tuning with regards to rcrate and p/r rate so stock naze settings on your quad will feel awful to us, in reverse our quads would feel like a night mare for you.

Agreed, iv flown in acro but not much and still yet to adjust settings. but what I meant is I'm struggling to get my quad on the sim to fly in a straight line and feel realistic. Despite trying everyone's values lol

New Diatone frame has arrived this morning. Looking forward to building this one with some changes. Hoping that any unknown vibration I had on my old model will be gone in this one, just need to wait for some more bits then I will get building.

RadioC have got the CF ZMR250 frame down at £17.99 again today.

Damn I just got my replacement diatone frame from them :p

Ahh well happy I went for diatone as I have some spare parts (3 legs, standoffs etc)

Thats a good price though

Bit gutted I also missed giant shark selling emax 2300kv motors at £4 each, would have made for a good second build.

Haha, it's a nice idea...

Yes throw 'Lily' off a bridge... I wonder how many times Lily will smash into a thousand pieces at bottom.

Still, if this actually works it's a amazing bit of kit

Technology seems ok if its stable, good if you are wanting something that follows you say skiing, on a bike.

Although for the price! I would want something I could also control, probably wouldnt be something I would buy though, but pretty cool, I can see a market for it, maybe at a lower price, and would need to get a positive reputation for being reliable and rock solid in its functions

My new Eachine VTX and camera has arrived. Not bad for £16 or what ever I paid for it - Only thing I need to find out now is can it take 4S batteries, as it only has a connector for 1-2-3 cell

Strictly speaking most use cases for these follow-me drones will be not comply with CAA rules, e.g. LOS, buddy, flying 50 meters from anyone out of your control, etc.
