I am thinking actually that the limitations do outweigh the plus points of being able to mount lots of different cameras with the Ronin M vs a Zenmuse - not sure what to do now haha!

I've heard too that the range on the controller is limited which is annoying and yeah the built in battery (another proprietary one at that thanks DJI) is another big weight to consider!

I've seen a few videos from a guy in Russia who's getting stunning 4K results from a modded A7S II in the A7 Zenmuse gimbal - seems to be working perfectly for him! Tempting ...
 
That's what we're using :). Or will be. We shoot all our ground-based work on the A7S II and are pausing with the A7 Zenmuse gimbal in our basket waiting for a) a job specifically requiring it to come up (currently a bit out of season for aerial work) or b) them to release an A7 II gimbal.
 
Ooooh would be very interested to know how you get on if you do decide to pull the trigger on the A7S zenmuse gimbal and mod it! If you were to get it working that would be very tempting - currently I have access to an a6000 but that could become an A7S II soon enough so let me know if you go for it!

From the various replies on the DJI forum I've seen it doesn't appear as though they have official plans to release a gimbal for the mark II but you never know which is annoying :/
 
Just took the P4 out :D. Lovely craft, battery life is crazy coming from the S1000. ActiveTrack works really really well as well. Bit weird not actually flying it though.

Considering it's only a £35 Quad, I'm impressed with the height I can get (dare to get without being taken away and getting out of range)
 
Folks, I'm looking to buy my first drone. I'm really just curious to have a play around with them so to begin with I'm not looking to spend any more than about £35-£60 tops. I'd appreciate some suggestions and advice for that price point from you guys in the know.

I'd like it to have a video camera onboard, I found a few reviews of the JJRC H11D which sound promising, It has FPV capability and its even got a mini-gimball fitted to the camera which can be remotely adjusted. Thoughts? Also, can someone clarify what the term 'headless mode' means? And is a one touch auto return function worth looking for or is that a bit gimmicky?

Just uploaded a third person view also if you wanted to actually see it moving about.

Point to note, the Möbius is a little heavy for it, so it's not something you'd want to fly around with ALL the time as it soon wears the batteries out. As a first copter though for sub £40 it's great, I'm hooked already really :p

Edot: the headless mode on mine means whatever way the copter is facing, forwards is forwards, left is left, then if you turn 50 degrees left will still be left. The auto return function is naff generally on mine but it MAY get you out of a pickle

Just a quick query Russ - with your current setup (You've got the 5D III Zenmuse gimbal no?) what is the AUW of the S1000 with the 16,000mAh battery in there and what sort of flight times do you get?

You mentioned you were pleasantly surprised at how much longer the Phantom 4 flew for (fair enough it weighs nothing!) but what's the real world difference in air time?

Thanks m8. Was the Mobius camera fairly easy to retrofit? I'm also looking at a Propel Sonic Quadcopter which looks like its good value but I can't find many reviews on it. That said, I quite like the idea of the JJRS H11D's FPV function. Thanks for the explanation of 'headless mode', makes more sense now. :)

The AUW is 9.2kg and the MTOM is approx 11kg. We could probably stretch it to 10 minutes but in the real world we call it at 7/8 minutes depending on what we've been doing.

We were up for double that with the P4 and the battery was at half. Flew yesterday for 15m 36s and the battery was 43% upon landing. These are stats off the built-in flight log btw which is also really useful.
 
Thinking about replacing my sj5000 with a gopro 4 what would you reccomend black or silver

Also is it true that in the new firmware update on the gopro its removed live video output?

Basically the standard camera has two plastic clips which slide under two 'hoops' on the battery cover.

The Mobius came with a decent velcro pad (although I put a strap over the quad just in case) but due to those hoops the camera doesn't hit the velcro properly so I used a stanley to cut off the hoops so the mobius sits on it better, I'll get a pick of the camera attached later if I remember.

I just know I'm not going to use the original camera...Apparently the FPV is somewhat neglected due to the range of the Quad, don't expect to fly a km away basically :p

Ah, you also can't flip the quad with the stock camera fitted ;)

Depends what you class as poor?

You can see roughly how far away from myself I go. It's a £35 beginner Quad, it's not a filming unit so doesn't need to go miles, neither is it a racer. It's rated to 120metres but going by reviews it's probably less than that depending on wind accountability and things.

What do you WANT to do with it? If it's your first Quad, you don't want to be too far away in case you lose control of it :p



The guy in the videos is a bit daft sometimes though.
