Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Get the 3 with the screen. I have a 2 and use my mobile and regret it
if you get one without a screen you can use a tablet with a big screen.
with the screen its pretty much impossible to notice power cables etc because the picture is kinda small

You'll notice them after when looking at your videos at home

look on youtube at videos and see how thin the power lines are, now imagine that on a 5.5 inch screen at 1920x1080 res

your basically looking at fishing line that will be a few pixels wide

I use controllers with mine and without checking I believe there are more and better options when using the controller over a mobile device.

So what happens if I don't attach a remote ID module (or whatever they are called) to my Mini 2? Will the police come knocking, or won't they know where to knock? What's to even stop people using false details when applying for operator and flyer IDs?

This is going to cause a right mess and put people off wanting to own a drone.

The average Joe won't know or care about these changes. I've got a couple of mates who have bought DJI minis and just fly them whenever and wherever they want. They've not got flyer IDs or anything like that. I imagine that's what the majority of people do.

I wonder if the likes of DJI will require the user to enter their user operator ID to be able to use the app and fly their drone?

I've been flying my drone less recently, but that's mostly down to lack of time. I did the test when I got my drone and to be honest it was a good thing, as it keeps my drone and people (including myself) safe. But this remote ID has the smell of big brother behind it to me, it feels like a heavy handed way of trying to police drones - I doubt most police will have either the time or inclination to chase people using drones incorrectly.

Suspect the RID they actually want is going to fall by the wayside, just don't see them getting funding for it or that the funding level they are asking for will be at all sufficient to implement it. Also it's worth remembering that these are currently just suggestions from the CAA and that it is the DfT that actually has final say, who knows, maybe the DfT will take into account that the vast majority of people responded that they didn't want RID and also understand that it is almost completely pointless as well, those that would abide by and use it aren't the ones flying like muppets and therefore won't be of any use for RID, the people flying like ejits and purposely breaking laws will simply ignore the requirement or actively remove/block the RID functionality.

Since buying my mini 4 pro on a cheap deal last year, i think i must have flown it twice, every time I go to charge the batteries to take it out I never end up bothering as weather has changed etc, i turn it on every now and again to check for firmware, pointless me really having this or the Neo but I know from past experience every time I sell them I have the urge to buy another........

Very much this. People brazenly share video they've taken which regardless of drone size and regulations breach privacy laws. This says to me they don't know about any kind of restrictions.

Unfortunately for me, given my job (ATCO) I feel I would be in deep water if I didn't adhere to all the rules and have a flyer ID and Operator ID.

Anyone else see all these changing regulations killing off the hobby, killing it off for me.
I have 8 drones just wasted now, still have my flyer ID and Operator ID, just no passion for it now with all the rules.

Well no, some of the things mentioned in that 4 minute video are opening things up, where larger drones will be able to fly where sub 250g drones can fly now. If anything, it makes me want to get a bigger and more stable drone than the mini 4, even though I rarely fly it!

Yes, just a pity the Mavic 4 Pro is a little too heavy to slip into a UK1 certification with the proposed changes at 1063g.

I could see the telegraph pole very well, that was a slight clue.
