Muse - Drones

I think exogenesis is overly flamboyant almost to the point of being bad. I never listen to that album as the whole thing feels like filler.

It doesn't help that it's preceded by possibly the worst song in the whole Muse canon - I belong to you. French plus clarinet :|

I LOVE Exogenesis. It's SO good, especially that 2nd part.

Agreed on I Belong To You, atrocious
 
I'm not a big Muse fan, loved Showbiz and Origin of Symmetry, but went off them after that. I'd heard a few of the songs off this album over the past few weeks and liked them so thought I'd give the full album a listen. So glad I did, it's excellent! The sound is completely different to their other stuff, definitely a Queen vibe to it - both of which are good things in my book. Really impressed!
 
Just had a proper listen to Drones now, some good stuff, Reapers, Dead Inside and Psycho in particular but I have to say I really don't get the stuff at the end. Aftermath, The Globalist and Drones as the end to the album just seem a real anti-climax to me.
 
Its all a bit "stick it to the Man" for me.

Sticking it on Shuffle Artist on Spottify turns up loads of better tracks I'd forgotten about. I do like Muse, but in reality their last few albums have just been reminders that have got me back listening to their early stuff.

I had Plug in Baby as my ringtone on those really early Nokias that were dust and waterproof and came with bright coloured cases and had lights on. It would make the phone go completely mental every time it rung :). Muse needs more of that.
 
It's a bit hit and miss for me. Overall it's better than the last album though, which could easily have passed for a U2 album.

Around 2003-2005 I was overwhelmingly in the camp of Muse>RH, but ever since and most definitely since In Rainbows came out RH are by far the better at "evolving".

My rating of Muse albums would be this btw...

1. OoS
2. Absolution
3. BHaR
4. Showbiz
5. T2L
6. Drones
7. The Resistance

I'm still a fan, but I can't say that I get excited for new songs. RH on the other hand, I cannot wait for new stuff.

Have to agree with this, and it's the reason I have my lowest ranked Muse album in a special edition vinyl boxset :o

I have the vinyl boxset as well, and the USA exclusive Exogenesis only vinyl :O
I own the deluxe vinyl for Drones as well.
 
Best album of the year so far. They've gone back to their roots and those roots are full of nutrients! I think Defector has to be my favourite song on the album right now.
 
It's been listened through 7 or 8 times for me, and the last time was over a week ago. Totally forgettable.
