Must Own Books?

Does anyone recommend any Autobiographies???

Billy is a brilliant biography written by his wife, Pamela Stephenson.

Peter Kay and Chris Moyles are good autobiogs. As are Mr Nice and Vinny Jones'.

See, i dont see how you can have a poor film yet a brilliant book when they are both the same story line...

Easily. I don't see how you can't see that both can happen.

If you fancy an autobiography by someone who actually had some interesting stuff happen, Electroboy by Andy Bernham (I think thats his name, shall check later) is really good.

But they seldom are. Holywood has certain demands that are always made upon the original script.

For example, the film version of the Lord of the Rings has many changes to include more "girl power" and more love romance, plus large chunks were cut out to stop the poor attention deficient yanks from going to sleep. Consequently, while the film is still a decent film in its own right, it's not really as good as the books.

You would already know all of this if you read books, mind ;)

Charles Bronson...Is that the guy who was banged up in prison and use to do them weird drawings??? I may be wrong and now i sound like a complete muppit lol...

That's the guy. He's a very complex and interesting person.

Oh, and he still is banged up. He'll probably never be released and is considered one of (if not the) most dangerous men in the country, despite the fact that he has never actually killed anyone (although that's more luck than judgement, really :D)

If your wanting a mint book to read, read a book written buy Stanley tookie williams.......Redemption...There is a film out but i loved the film that much i got the book too lol

Perfume by Patrick Süskind is an interesting read!

Also, if you got the entire Mr Men collection, you could marvel at how the spines spell our Mr Men when put together.

War and Peace

What's up with that? I am 1/3rd of the way and I am still reading mostly about rich 13yr old girls wanting to get married to older men. I was expecting some royalty but not that much, where's all the blood and guts?

Some of these may have been mentioned already but I thought that I would just list stuff that came to my mind.

To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee
1984 - George Orwell
SuperToys Last All Summer Long and Other Stories of Future Time - Brian Aldiss
Thus Spoke Zarathustra - Freidrich Nietzche
The Blind Watchmaker, The God Delusion - Richard Dawkins
Forrest Gump - Winston Groom

Someone mentioned autobiographies / biographies so I'll put forward iCon, about Steve Jobs, very interesting read.

I'll add more when I get home from work and can peruse my bookshelves.

I'm a great advocate of Dan Brown for that. It may appear shallow and too descriptive but the success of his books is from people being unable to put them down.

yeah but he does this with cheap literary tricks, like having two paralel stories, one boring the other better and cutting one off just as something exciting is happening. meaning you have to speed read through the next chapter to get back to the exciting bit... i think he is crap but hey its all subjective.

must own books shoudl include James Clavell - shogun, Tai Pan and King Rat specifically.

his dark materials trilogy - phillip pullman

David Copperfield - Charles Dickens.

sooo many good books.....

Castle of Steel - Robert K Massie
Dreadnought - Robert K Massie

i could go on and on....

i've decided after readin this thread, im gonna try and read a book rather than see the film and see how it goes ... Something new to try lol
I just find i get bored too quickly by readin books

you must be reading the wrong books...

I think pretty much every book -> film i've ever watched AND read, the book far surpasses the created film

Films NEVER beat the book - a random example of the top of my head is the jurrassic park books by michael crichton, so much awesome stuff is missed out from the film!

Absolutely it is, and tricks or not it works for me :) And talk about subjective, HDM is the worst trilogy I've laid eyes on.
