mx-5 vs S2k

S2000, no question for me.

A properly built MX5 Turbo with forged pistons and rods, more turbo friendly cams and say a GT28R turbo could comfortably run 250hp and be *miles* faster than an S2000.

What if we add a turbo or a super charger to the S2000?

Then it would likely be faster, obvious no?

My point was he could have a faster car than the S2000 for the same budget as the S2000.

Point is that you could buy and MX-5 and turbo it for the same cost as an S2000, so buying the S2000 and spending more money on it wouldn't be a choice :)

You could use the same argument and say the extra it costs to supercharger / Turbocharge the S2000 could also be spent an an MX-5, 300bhp+ in that case.

*Edit, as above.

Also a turbo/sc kit for an S2000 is going to be considerably more than the cost of adding a turbo to an MX5.

OK but we aren't really comparing like-for-like when comparing a modified MX-5 with a stock S2000, that's all I was getting at.

I'd still rather have a stock S2000 than a FI MX-5 anyway.

Fair enough, to be honest if I had £9k to spend on a car it'd be one of these:-

My S2000 has 200hp/ton, anyway you get an electric roof, Torsen LSD and funky digi dash with the S2000 :p

Depends on the power yielded by the turbo conversion.

S2000 has a power to weight of 186hp/tonne.

A stock engined turbo MX5 putting out 200hp(pretty normal for a basic turbo conversion) would have a power to weight of ~200hp/tonne, and therefore be faster. Not massively faster but faster.

A properly built MX5 Turbo with forged pistons and rods, more turbo friendly cams and say a GT28R turbo could comfortably run 250hp and be *miles* faster than an S2000.

I achieved 236bhp on mine on stock internals with the T28. Ok I had a full ecu remap, custom turbo exhaust & downpipe, intercooler, upgraded clutch and a few other bits and pieces. At around 200 I achieved a 0-60 of 5.4 or so seconds, can't remember what 1/4 mile I did, with 236bhp I have no idea :p

They respond VERY well to a turbo conversion and so useable, incredibly linear power delivery with hardly noticeable lag at all, in fact it almost feels supercharged, though much more rewarding power delivery! :D

I miss mine :(

Cool! Do you mind me asking what that set you back in total? A friend is looking at doing the conversion so some real world figures would be good :)

Also how much boost did you need to get to your power figure?
