My first build - Black / Orange Corsair 300r

Might see how it looks. Seen some pics with 1 fan on the rad looks ugly. I think once I have the SP120s on the rad with orange rings it could look pretty sweet.

See how it goes :)

So I just received my new package of OCUK:

New fans & grommets for case:

And for modding purposes - Spray paint! Hopefully this colour matches well, will keep you all updated:

On a side note too, I also went to Ikea on the way home and picked up a markus chair. Seems to have a lot of good reviews around here and having an Ikea gift card, I thought why not:

Spray paint aint a bad colour - Think i'll give it one more coat and see how it looks before loading into case. At the moment though, i can live with this orange. Not sure if i'd prefer gloss over matte now though ha. Looks too matte this:

Looking good matey, In a couple of your pics though the top cables closet to you, on the psu doesn't look like it is pushed in all the way. Also on a side note the gpu's accesories are usually under the foam.

Thanks mate, i'll double check them. PSU looks like it has white LEDs that are central so the outside cables dont get much light - I think this is why it looks like they're not plugged in but i'll certainly double check!

Nice one on the GPU shout. I'll check that tonight too as I was really disappointed with the packaging for that.

Hopefully paint the rest of the rings tonight and get some pics up over the weekend.

The colour looks like it's matched pretty well actually, certainly near enough that you wouldn't really notice. Build's looking good man :)

Yer I'm happy with the match mate. Better than the graphics card so happy there. Paint is really matte though so hoping when I add white LED's to my case to brighten it up, the colour doesn't look to pastel like which it does resemble in real life.

Sneak preview of everything sprayed (Minus 2 drive trays as I couldnt be bothered to remove had drives ha - will live with alternativing orange and black handles I think and if it doesn't look good will spray them at some other point). Hopefully be getting these in the case tonight. This is the second coat so hoping they don't need another. Looked fine after first coat just wanted to make sure:

Its been Tango'd ! :D

Yep I'm still liking the orange, how much did the chair set you back, if you don't mind me asking? Mine has seen better days, although its a long way to Ikea from my place.

Coming along nicely

Will post some pics on weekend mate of all recent mods. Hoping these tango'd parts bring the case to life :)

The chair is RRP £125. Google 'Ikea Markus Chair'. If you search these forums also, you should find some decent reviews - it's were I discovered it. It comes in a blue material also which might be cheaper. When i went to Ikea it was the current 'Ikea family' (free to join loyalty scheme in ikea) offer and was marked down to £95. I then had a £75 voucher for Ikea so I got it for a measly £20! Well worth it.

Seat is slightly hard at first although soon goes soft and the lumbar support takes some getting use to but the chair overall is pretty nice. I didn't realise how nice a full back and head rest on a chair could be - I've always had chairs with backs that finished mid back and tended to slouch down in them. Markus seems to promote a healthy posture and my back is thanking me for it!

So i swapped ALL fans out last night for either AF/SP/120/140's by corsair. Basically wanted the ring to paint orange to match my rig. After some crazy problems with install (thread for your amusement: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=25965506 ) I finally got them in my case.

Surprisingly, my temperatures haven't even dropped and if anything my GPU has gone up by 1 degrees :/ All these temps are at idle so i'm guessing this is just room temp and hopefully the new fans make a difference under load. Only real difference is an extra 140 at front for intake.

On a side note, does anyone know how to get the hard drives too come back on corsair link? I've seemed to have lost them and even after selecting 'show all hardware' and maximising the window, i can't locate them.

Thanks mate, had to go routing through my boxes last night for fan screws for my latest additions and I found the accessories in GFX box under the foam.

Whilst my case was apart also I reconnected all power cables. You're right, some where indeed loose and needed pushing in further. Hopefully not done any damage in short time they've been loose.

Yeah, it just sounds like room temp + a little heat generated. Nothing to worry about on Idle, they are good temps.

And Corsair Link has a mind of its own... I uninstalled it as its unnecessary, and caused some blue screening now and then. Possibly due to interference with BIOS settings for fan speed, not sure. But icons would go missing too. And firmware updates failed to notify of success, just kept updating till I closed the program down, and then opened again to check firmware version to see if it had worked (guess it did but leaves you with some doubt as to how successful it was). Don't want buggy software on my computer, unless it's absolutely necessary.

Then again, I haven't tried the program for 8 months or so. Might be an update for it. But I don't want to mess with it again.

It doesn't even work with 8.1 as standard mate, requires a registry edit to get it working and so it is definitely still buggy! Why they havn't released a version that is compatible with 8.1 out the box I do not know.

So finnally got around to adding orange accents to case. Pics below chaps:

Fan rings nice and orange

Bay clips

Hard drive trays - using 2 and so only painted the 2 I wasn't using (being lazy).

Both together

Full case with the above edits. Mostly so you can see H80i before it's orange ring'd goodness!

Enjoy chaps - input appreciated so let me know what you think :)

Looking grand mate. Now I wonder how you could mod the superflower to light up the power cables orange instead of white? It should be possible. I'm just guessing here but you could either open the superflower up and cover the LED's with some sort of orange transparent film (no doubt voiding warranty though). Or you could cover the plastic clear plugs in some orange film or paint them with some orange clear lacquer or something?

Would look amaze if you could do that!

Yer, that's something I'd love to do mate. Like you said though, wouldn't know how best to go about it. I think modding the actual LED's would be best, but then bye goes my warranty. I might look at adding white light strips to the bottom and top of the case. I think once it's lighted up more, the PSU won't be so prominent. Was looking at Orange lights but think it might just be 'too much' orange.

Nice, the orange accents look really nice

Thanks mate, allot more happy with the case now. Accents really do help in how it looks.

Shame about my poor camera quality, sorry chaps.

Yes I think orange LED's might be a bit much. Orange sticky back plastic film will do the job and wont void any warranty as it could be removed. This sort of thing:

ISHPHL0l.jpg

It would involve a lot of cutting to size for each connector and might require 2 or more layers to be really orange but I think would look amazing?
You can get a roll for like £2 so why not give it a pop :)

So tempted mate but think it will be a ball ache. The nature of them, applying it would be a nightmare. Much easier to mod the LED area. Might look into it but wouldn't want to loose my warranty.

Thanks for the idea though! Will keep you updated after abit of Googling on modding a superflower - hopefully someone has done this before.

Well if it's just swapping LEDs it's simple enough, very low risk, or very high risk depending on your soldering skills.
I suppose it boils down to your skill & how much you think you'll need the warranty. Superflower's a good make, might never need the warrenty

Just found a review of this PSU online where they stripped it down. Looking at the front, I wouldn't be confident changing the LED's and doesn't look like there is room to fit the orange sheets internally. Fitting it on the connectors will make me want to pull my hair out too, they're far too small and will be a nightmare.

Looks like I might have to leave with the white lighting...

aaaah, right, I'd say no too.
Looks like a smart wee setup in there, it'd take destroying one to check but I suspect they're PCB mounted, so magnifier + fine tipped iron and a good number of hours for a small gain in the effect.

Aye, i'd post the link so you get more images but not sure if breaching forum guidelines. Pretty much right though, LED's look like they're hard to get to and no where to mount the orange sheets easily.

Makes me wonder why they don't have an off switch for the LED's though, seems strange.

It's starting to look real beastly...

Thoughts:

That stupid PSU sticker has to come off or be covered!

You could place something black (hard sheet of plastic or something) over the sticker on the PSU, and make sure not to put any glue on the actual sticker itself (just around it). Then there'd be no problems with warranty (just clean off the glue around the sticker and it's good as new). Maybe even write a name (in orange) for your build on the black plastic.

As for the PSU LEDs, if you don't fancy the sticky plastic idea, go for a Transparent Orange Acrylic (also called Orange Tint Acrylic) mod. You could snugly surround the connectors with 4 pieces of this acrylic (or a 3D-printed UV-cured acrylic plastic single piece made to size).

Was thinking of an L-shape peice of black plastic mate so doesn't need gluing and was gonna write my name in an orange sharpie or something. Don't suppose you or anyone knows anywhere I can get black plastic cut to shape & size?

If I could find somewhere I can take the 300r window too and get a copy without the fan holes, that would be amazing too. Noticed it has an almost bezel around it and it fits into it's own clips to keep it secure.

Does orange tint acryclic come with it's own adhesive? What would be best way to apply it? Looking at the cables last night it should be 4 easy pieces to apply. Originally I was thinking i'd have to get it in all the gaps around the wires etc but don't think that would be necessary so shouldn't be too much of a pain.

nice colour scheme, need more orange!

Agreed mate! I think onces I get some hidden white light in the case though, should make all the orange pop.
