My first build - Black / Orange Corsair 300r

Yeah I've got the same card as you now and have had great results overclocking, I have posted a response in your new thread :)

Thanks mate!

Build is looking great, the orange accents real make it stand out.

From the looks of it the gain for changing the led's for the PSU isn't worth the cost and time needed. If it's even possible at all.

Thanks mate, agreed the accents do really help :) I'm going to get round to doing the other hard drive cages this weekend I think. Regarding the PSU, I think if I do mod it, will be the last step! Definitely the most fiddly part.

This build is sweet! I'm saving for my next build and I'm taking some inspiration from here if you don't mind :)

Perfect mate! Glad someone likes it that much they want to use it for inspiration. Get some pics up once you are done :)

I don't think covering the connectors in orange film would be that difficult. I was bored at work and downloaded your pic of your pc and changed the LED colour to orange using paint.net:

CMON you gotta try mod it!! This is Overclockers after all!

:p

That looks amazing. Now you are convincing me!!

Just a thought:
1. changing surface mounted LEDs isn't that hard if you don't care about the old LEDs.

2. maybe swap the connectors with semi-transparent orange ones and leave the lights?

Regarding point 2, would it be easy enough to source orange translucent connectors to fit this PSU? That would give the desired affect and means I don't have to open the PSU up. I don't fancy messing with the LED's as my soldering skills are non-existent.

Option 1 = warranty void and difficult for someone with no soldering skills.

Option 2 = warranty intact and will look much better than using sticky back plastic. Also shouldn't be too difficult to do, if you can find the connectors!

I've seen you can buy various opaque coloured ones but not seen clear orange yet... Not sure if they are universal or you would need to get ones designed for your power supply

Yer, finding the connectors is going to be the hard part I think. Be great If they could be sourced though.

I just did a quick Google search and found some solid orange ones. Even these should be an improvement as the light will probably still show through slightly being plastic. No idea if they're compatible though but they look like the same connector. Will do some research.

OK I've got a much simpler idea.

Humbrol clear orange enamel paint - used for Airfix kits and the such. Just googled it and it is £1.70 per tin:

Humbrol 1322 Orange Clear - 14ml Enamel Paint

I assume by clear they mean it is translucent after painting. You could test it out on one of the spare PSU cables, and this paint is designed to coat plastic so it will be ideal!

" This No 1322 Clear Colour Orange Enamel modeling paint by Humbrol is also a fast dry paint developed specifically designed for clear parts & clear surfaces such as; clear plastic or glass. "

You sir, deserve a pint!

Thanks mate. Only did a quick google but going to research later tonight before i jump back on overclocking. Looks like i need 'a suitable thinner' also you see and can't apply directly. Also requires polishing? Will look into it properly tonight. Nice one on the find, looks ideal and easiest option!
