can you not get them machined?

Fittings are now sorted, the spacers I needed could have been machined, finding a source for M12x1 locknuts was the problem. Just got some from Larkspeed.

Engine is now ordered, should be here tomorrow.

All the other bits have been ordered and again should be here tomorrow.

Went to pick up the air filter earlier, guess what they sent the wrong one. Correct one on it's way!

Can anyone think of anything else that's going to go wrong? :D

Serious respect to you dude as Fox said :D

Whats the chap off Ebay said about the engine ?

No answer yet to the email I sent yesterday which included a link to this thread, so let's give him a chance first!

Getting prices for an engine at the moment

VW - £1800 + VAT less 12%
The Engine shop - £1295 inc VAT, will never get one by the weekend
Daventry Motors - £850 + VAT, 41k second hand engine

Trying to decide between recon and second hand, not much price difference at the moment. It's going to be down to who has one in stock!
Reshelling a Mk4 Escort all those years ago has left you soft in the head, or maybe it was one of those potholes we hit up the quarry in the Uber Golf.

Good luck dude :D

massive respect for keeping this going mate.... make sure you tell me what your drinking on Saturday, because i'm definitely getting you your first drink at the pub !

A link to this thread would possibly shock him into fully refunding you the money as well as giving all his savings for the inconvenience.

I hope the engine comes as delivered and it all gets sorted, its the final push so chin up and just look at how far you've already come. Your starting line is merely a dot in the distance now, the finish line is in front of you.

It only took me about 9 months to reshell that thing, what a nightmare of a job.

It was the potholes ;)

I predict an all nighter Thursday night ready for the MOT Friday morning, so lots of redbull and coffee please!

Me too, I can see the finish now, just a matter of not stopping till I get there!

Few bits done tonight but no pics sorry!

Rear brake carriers, stub axles and calipers painted. Also cut a hole under the air filter to provide a cold air feed, will post some pics tomorrow.

Car is ready for the engine now, will change the cambelt, fit the turbo first and then put it in.

Fingers crossed all will be ok and it starts without any problems by tomorrow afternoon.

Best of luck mate, I'm really looking forward to seeing it with a bit of luck!

I'd offer help, but to be honest your best of just getting given luck off me :p

This arrived about 15 minutes ago, few hours to strip it down and swap some bits from the other engine and change the cambelt then I can put it in.

Will keep you posted :D

Agree with what Fox said earlier in the thread.

Congratulations on having the strength to keep on with this project. I'm sure most of us would have chucked a hammer through the windscreen and given up with it by now... especially after discovering the engine you spent so much time preparing has given up the ghost.

I really hope you get it finished for the RR. You've put so much effort into the project that it'd be a damn shame for you to miss out on the day because of even more problems.

Best of luck :)

Llyr, you got any room for some more admiration? :)

Really hope the new engine goes in with no further surprises!
