I am in awe. Particularily of the wiring looms What are you using to tape those up? I've always used self amalgamating tape myself, it;s very effective but bulky and it looks like ****, so blatantly DIYd.

I used the cloth tape

Plan is to get the engine back in by Tuesday and fit the new suspension Wednesday (if it arrives).

Just read the entire thread. What an achievement.

What is DET and did you cure this problem/high boost problem?

It's basically the air/fuel mixture in the cylinder igniting itself, due to pressure and temperature in the cylinder, before the flame created by spark plug reaches it. This creates large pressure spikes within the cylinder and can damage the engine internals.

The ECU hasn’t been remapped yet to sort the problem out. Work has been stupidly busy since May. I need to take it down to the ECU supplier to get done for free one weekend.

It's running fine in low boost and I don’t really want high boost until the diff is installed!

You still going to the ring on friday?
I take it you will be going round the sunday, if so email me your mobile number so i can call you when I get there ill try get your car going round.

New seats didnt turn up today  Will chase them up in the morning.

Oil change and some coolant tomorrow and all that will be left to do is the suspension and seats when they arrive.

It's a really weird feeling having some time spare and not being in a mad panic :D

Suspension has arrived :D

DSCF0050-1.jpg

Off to fit it now and hopefully a road test tonight!

They look Yummiy. I never actually know that there were 2 springs on the strut. A smaller compact one and a larger out sprung one :p

I must've missed this thread, from the work that you've done the project looks amazing and I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product along with some videos :)

looks good mate, ill hopefully see you sunday,

P.S. if i pay for the ticket will you take me round?

I'll take you round regardless, no need for the ticket. I'm sure my passengers will need a break at some point :D

Don't expect a quick lap, I'm still learning the ring and this new suspension is going to be interesting!

After reading all 34 pages on this thread in one afternoon, I have one simple question about your project. How many times have you taken a bloody engine out of a Golf and put it back again?

Great rebuild thread.

Out of mild interest, what is involved in putting a 1.8T into a MK3 golf? We have an old Mk3 golf driver and its done our family well over the years and seems a shame to run such a faithful car into the ground.

Have ideas of making it look like a very well looked after driver - but with something interesting inside.

LMAO I've stopped counting, about 4 I think?!

For starters see my other project thread:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17748466

It's basically the same as the mk2, more work is required on the intercooler and wiring but this thread would be a rough guide! It would be easier to start with a fuel injected car.
