This was the most recent outing, last night was pretty good location. A bit of light pollution but the results came out good I think.
So tonight I ventured out with the wife to a new location I had never been, the Stornoway Gun Battery/Lookout (From circa WW2 I think, will have to look into the history of it another time) Had a lot of fun and added a bit more experience.

Haha you gotta make do with what you got (its the wife's... honest!)
love the photo and the light painting orb. first time i've ever heard of light painting photography. just seeing these photo make me what to have try at it at some point.
as for your point about light polution i know it nightmare exspecially in astrophotography. i don't know if you already know about this but their are filter for camera lens that can help combat this issue, also their are some tutorials online on how to remove light polution in photoshop, also their an Astronomy Tools plugin for adobe phtoshop, that one of it script actions is to remove light polution to help speed up the post processing process. lot of the tutorial are gear towards astrography but the concept & technique of removing light polution plus some of the other deep sky technique can be use in any other type of night time outdoor photography not just astrophotograhpy. it might be worth look at incase you ever get to the point were you just want to remove or have crack removing the glow of light polution to get cleaner/more natural night sky. i've have seen few astrophoto of the night sky that have before and after light polution remove it just wow you see the different. only thing is unless you good at photoshop or good a computer doing these technique manualy can be quite hard.
again these photo are just wow can believe that some led or wire wool can have such an amazing effect on a photo.
